I came across the article a few days ago.  There has been tons of opinions on the original place it was posted.  I was wanting to post it here to also get the opinions of another part of the MMA community, as I think it has some great points.  Its a short but good read.  Tell me what you all think of Silva vs Fedor, as the greatest of all time. Enjoy.

This debate is mind blowingly stupid at this point. Anderson is older and had more fights than Fedor, and is still dominating everyone. This isn't even close to being a conversation.

Anderson may be the P4P GOAT but he could never reach Fedor as the Absolute GOAT

We all know Bob Sapp is the GOAT

Gotta go with Anderson.  Top level wins in 3 weight classes, a title reign as good or better than Fedor's, and as Messiah said, Anderson is actually older than Fedor, started fighting before Fedor, and is still going strong.  I love Fedor, but you've got to give the nod to Anderson.

Fedor was the greatest HW of his time. Anderson has been the greatest pound for pound fighter of his time. Notice, that this is of this particular era in the sport. Competition in all weight divisions has steadily increased, especially in the last 4 years. It is doubtful that Anderson will remain dominant long enough to be considered the best ever 5 years from now. Although, Anderson did say something about fighting for another 10 years. If he were to do that and reach something like 30-0 in the UFC, then it would become very difficult to claim the competition argument, although if we were to look to boxing for an example we could compare Marciano to Ali.

Saying Anderson would have to go 30-0 in the UFC to establish himself as the greatest is one of the craziest things I have ever heard.

I don't know that Zarog was saying Anderson isn't the greatest.

@messiah Gregory is correct. That's not at all what I was saying. He is the greatest currently. I'm saying for people to not discredit what he has done as being against weaker competition, ala Rocky Marciano vs. Muhammad Ali argument, if Anderson were to go 30-0 in the UFC it would be significantly more difficult for his achievements to be discredited by future generations as being against weaker competition; therefore, the achievements don't matter. Hopefully that makes more sense.

I'm not a fan of his, but Anderson is the GOAT. It's got nothing to do with what promotion he fights for, or whatever else. He hasn't legitimately lost in years, and destroys almost anyone he fights. They've both beaten some great fighters, but i think Anderson is the best ever.

I still think Fedor is pretty easily the heavyweight GOAT still.  But this is ONLY because nobody yet has put together a really nice streak in the modern era.  If someone goes on a big streak in the UFC, I think it will eclipse Fedor fairly comfortably, just because of the difference in competition.

@Greg Agreed. Even an 8-12 fight win streak could potentially eclipse Fedor in my book, mostly because the competition level is significantly better now. Back in the day, Cro Cop, Noguiera, Sylvia, and Arlovski were the other big dogs of the division. They all were crushed by Fedor, but none of them is as well rounded and good enough to stay competitive with the top 5, although they are getting up there in years.
