Poor Varner... the guy's hands and feet break in practically every fight.  Too brittle or something.

Shooting wasn't a huge mistake given his wrestling, but it was a mistake considering he could still do damage and at least edge the round standing with one hand left. His corner should've known better, he could've survived and won despite late notice, declining cardio and a broken hand but instead went to the ground, where the fight was very likely to be finished, especially given his cardio.

I think Varner wins this fight the majority of the time with a full camp. Unfortunately his cardio failed him here on short notice. I would've liked to see him win and get into the top 10 and see a 3rd fight with Cerrone.

Awesome fight though and good on J-Lau getting the new oTN bonus record.

EDIT: Oops guess J-Lau wasn't right in the press conf. Lytle has 10 bonuses, he's just at 9 yet.

Varner was doing so well... sucks to break your hand, then start to tire.  The fight was his until the end.

@Danno agreed, with more energy in the second and more confidence in the first due to more prep, I'd pick him to win 6 or 7 /10. Nonetheless rocking Lauzon a few times and beating him on the feet on short notice shows he's always game.

Yeah I was surprised how Lauzon said he broke the record or whatever, that was weird, he wasn't talking about SOTN bc he already had more of those, idk.

I think it stinks he broke the record... one of the most exciting fighters ever had it... Chris Lytle.

Well, overall he still has less than Lytle, who has ten. Lauzon has 9.

Lauzon has 11...he's got the record and he did it in 13 fights which is ******* crazy. No one talks about how exciting this guy is, Lauzon is a fun fighter to watch.

He is okay to watch imo... but Lytle was just awesome.  Good for Lauzon though.

Why does Lauzon think he got the record.  Every where I look he was won 9 OTN bonuses not 11.  What am I missing here fellas?

Breaking one's hands, feet, arms, etc is a part of fighting.  Rich Franklin broke his hand vs David Louazo and fought the final four rounds with it...and won.  He also knocked out chuck liddell with a broken arm.  Randy Couture tko'd Gonzaga with a broken arm.  Tim Boetsch recently won with a broken foot.  Even Forrest beat some guy with a broken arm back in the day.  The list goes on and on.

It doesn't matter that he had a broken hand really, cause he fought on and I really wanted to see him win as he is one of my old WEC favourites but at the end of the day he needed better cardio

As much as I like Chris Lytle, it's awesome to see Joe Lauzon break that record.  He's been my favourite lightweight for years and I don't think he gets enough credit for the quality of fights he puts on.  Holding a UFC record should help up his rep a little though.

As always, can't wait to see him fight again.
