Def gonna keep my eye on him. Added him right outside of my top 10 favorites after seeing him on the weekend, he has that Karate style and in my opinion using it even better than Machida!

I agree with Kallousklown. If he has TDD he may go far but he may also be one of those promicing very talented fighters in other martial arts who peak midway to contender status and get cut.
I really hope Roger Gracie recovers instead becoming one

@norbar He's got some really impressive credentials on the ground. His TDD might not have to be top-notch to be a successful fighter. Only time will tell.

It's hard to predict, but he made a great first impression on me obviously. The stance and everything is so unorthodox that I really don't know what to think yet, but those credentials sound impressive. I can't wait to see more.

He had a superb knockout and looks very exciting, but like many others I'll wait to reserve judgment until we see him tested.  I'll be watching him for sure though.

being involved in over 60 fights of all kinds, and never losing, makes me believe he's a force...

however, his stance will get eaten alive by wrestlers...imo

I really wanna see his ground game. Because I heard he is great on the ground! But if a guy with that kind of stand up has even HALF decent ground game then hes gonna be a serious force.

His brother in law is Carlos Machado who trains with him a ton so yes, very serious force. I really don't see anyone taking him down for a while.

Before you say he uses if better than Machida, lets see him knock out the WW equivalent of Thiago Silva, and Rashad Evams. He knocked out that one guy on his debut, but lets see him knock out somebody that has some above average striking, and thats not Matt Brown.

If Brown is able to take Stephen down, very doubtful, his BJJ is awesome. I train with Stephen and he is an animal. Carlos Machado is his BJJ instructor, what more could you ask for. 2nd round KO!

No, but saying he uses it better then Machida is kinda stupid. After one fight, against a nobody. All im saying is lets see him fight somebody will more striking skill before you make that assessment, but you must defend the top dawgs of the site, and smash anybody who disagrees with them, so whatever...

I agree with both points raised by Trae and Soccer but I think a comparison between Machida and Thompson is slightly silly since their styles are VERY different, although I suppose there's no alternative with the small number of successful karate artists in the UFC.

@Russello thats the problem since there are so few successful Karate fighters they will be compared even though they are very different...I'm with @Trae and wanna see more of Wonderboy before I say he's on the same level as a former LHW champion

Alves vs Thompson sounds SWEET. Two of the best strikers in the division, sporting some of the best aggressive Muay Thai vs some of the best aggressive Karate.

Yeah Trae, lots of people forget thanks to Story and his epic mind lapse with Kampmann. That reminds me, the AV I really want is Thiago subbing Abedi then standing up and brushing both his shoulders. Does anybody know where to find it or is anyone good at making GIFs? :p

Like others have said, I'm not sold on Thompson yet.  However, because of his credentials, I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt.  Many people have said that he has great BJJ.  Is it well-rounded?  If he gets taken down by a great wrestler, I don't see him winning unless he has a good offensive guard.  I look forward to seeing what he is capable of.

@Havok, yea im with you. People say he trains with the Machado's, but how good is he really on the ground. To be a life long karate guy, i dont see him getting taken down, and tapping guys at will just because he is a what? blue belt? There are guys that have been training their ground game for years, and would make a blue belt look silly.
