I mean if it wasn’t on 300, he would’ve been fighting 3 weeks later on 301 so I don’t think it changes that much. He was probably already training and he has looked noticeably slimmer in public as of late so I think he’s back to training

I really can‘t decide who to pick. It still surprises me how much people sleep on Jamahal Hill and I give him good chances to pull it off. Still leaning a bit more to Alex right now though. Probably gonna switch back and forth throughout the next two months.

Not fully in shape Hill with ring rust and a not fully recovered achiles VS Very active Poatan that is in shape and has some of the best leg/calf kicks in the sport.

I am not saying that Hill has absolutely no chance because like people said, he is a good fighter, but the Hill that will show up to this fight is not the Hill that you guys remember. He will not be 100% by then. Poatan Ko him in round 2 or 3 and then fights at UFC 301 like he wants to.

Depending on who he fights at 301 I can see him losing.

How do you know he’s not 100%? He signed the contract to compete on this card, he wouldn’t have taken the fight if he wasn’t recovered from his achillies injury

Hill hurted his achilles in August last year, if he immediately started treating it and did the surgery,  3 or 6 weeks later he could begin doing his physical therapy that would last at least 6 months.  UFC 300 will be in April, 8 months after the injury, so is easy to think that he had time to recover, but physical therapy to recover the full use of your achilles is not MMA training.

He can of course work around it, train in other parts of the body to not stress the injury but this is not the ideal situation for a training camp. Will he even be able to condition his leg to endure leg kicks in this camp ?

I am not a doctor so if you guys have more knowledge about the treatment and recovery of an achilles heel pls school me about this. From whatIknow he is not gonna be 100%.

@AyyLmaonnaise
Didn't Aaron Rodgers rupture his Achilles and was practicing again in a few months ? he's also a 40 yr old man. so i agree with you that he wouldn't have taken the fight unless he's ready to go

Typically Achilles injuries are elite career enders. Players always come back to their respective sport but they are never the same as before it happened. They all have lost a step whether its speed or explosiveness none of them come back as good as they were. Even Kobe as great as he was, was past him prime already but before his achilles injury he was averaging 28 a game. 3 incomplete seasons later he retired. He averaged 19 a game those last 3 years.

Aaron Rodgers was throwing and doing lite exercise. He wasn't back to full contact practice.

MMA the most recent I can think of was Devonte Smith. Tore his Achilles in 2019. Didnt return for 18 months.

No one comes back as good as they were in any other sport after this injury, I have to believe Jamahal will not either

@nosukow yeah I think he recovered in around 8 months. Hill used the same doctor Kobe did for his achillies surgery so I know he’s recieved the best medical care available. I do agree with the general sentiment that achillies injuries are very serious but I have full faith hill wouldn’t be taking this fight unless he is 100% ready to go

@Chael  here is a link to a study the NFL did about 7-8 years ago showing the % of players who return from the injury. the average time. As well as their production after the surgery. https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/pdf/10.1177/2473011417S000314

I know MMA and NFL are different, but when it comes to the leg motions its a lot of explosion and lateral movement in short bursts. Very similar in that sense I guess.

Although the study also cites the players coming back more recently show better success after thanks to advancements in the surgery and modern medicines.

About his achilles heel, this is a man who's elbow was completely dislocated and he did not tap and continued to punch with his other arm. While his arm flopped around he didn't even consider tapping, Alex has weak defence, if you watch the first fight the bell saves him from the exact same punches Izzy landed in the 2nd MMA fight.

SWEET DREAMS

I like Alex, but he's getting slept here by one of the future, a man born in the Apex, bread, ready to eat. It's his time.
