You are one of the only people to realise what is pretty obvious. This is a Jacksonville card.
And who exactly has Tafa the striker extraordinaire beaten? Oh? No one good at all?
And why is everyone saying Lane has no chance? Oh? Because he got KO'D by Hardy years ago. What's that you say? Hardy has KO power and anyone can get caught? What's that? He has a 6 inch height and 8 inch reach advantage? How is that going to matter against a striker. Don't be silly. And he is the only one who can wrestle? How is that important in an MMA fight.
And what's that? Who does the UFC want to win? In a main card spot? Some random bum from Australia with no real potential in the UFC who has beaten no one and got KO'D by Yorgan De Castro or an American Ex-football player with name value in Jacksonville? They want Lane to win? You sure? Because all the experts on Tapology are sure Tafa is going to just turn up and collect a winners paycheck. Don't listen to Tapology nerds?

However, Tafa has just been flattening dudes since then. No, it hasn't been great competition but I think he learned that he's got to stay off his back at all costs, and one way to do that is to just end the fight before your opponent can take you there.
The size is concerning for sure. Tap has it listed as a 6in ready disadvantage for Tafa. Thats a good bit, but Tafa is also the demonstrably better striker. I think he can manage the length, and Lane has an absolute glass jaw.
Sure, Lane will get a nice pop from the crowd. But guess what? So did Phil Hawes in NJ recently. I know. I was there. He came down to the Rocks entrance music. Got the crowd super pumped. Guess what? He got merked.
I dont think the UFC cares about this fight at all. They couldn't care less who wins but it is good matchmaking.

This is sort of MMA math, and it is fair to say these fights also happened 2 years apart, but I think its saying something that Austen Lane went to a 4th round with Juan Adams whereas Tafa destroyed him in 2 minutes.
Adams is even bigger than Lane. I think Tafa should be fine here.

This is the closest fight on the card IMO.

Lane is not really a HW imo. He is like an athletic LHW. Pillow fisted and his wrestling is non existent. He is like a kicker with decent speed. Keep hands low, chin high. Got that tall man defence. In pure boxing he is sloppy, Tafa certainly better boxer. Every guy who fought Lane landed on him and/or got top position. Including guys who dont have wrestling but just muscle him to the floor with strength or size.
Lastly Lane is older than Tafa by 5 years. Basically lower tier HW in Tafa fighting a washed up football player who has a risky style for MMA.
