Ouch. 2 years is really harsh, but high level guys like Chad Mendes getting these harsh suspensions is what it's going to take to clean up the sport. Random, year round testing for everyone under contract and seriously punitive consequences for those who are caught. It's a new day in MMA.

Yeah I mean we start seeing more 2 year bans handed out I think guys will start to realize it's not worth it.

This just isn't 2 years, but 2 years in Mendes' prime. It's not like he was an aging fighter looking for the fountain of youth. These are the years Mendes should be fighting his biggest fights.

I think this is actually good for the FW division. Mendes had become a cork ceiling. He would probably beat any contender looking to get a title shot but not the champ. This opens the division for all the upcoming prospects: Bektic, Choi, Holloway, Ortega, & Yair.

I actually hope more people get banned for 2 years.  It will flush it out of the sport.  Well, the UFC anyway.  You can take whatever you want and fight in Japan tomorrow.

Good. Jon Jones should get 5 years. Multiple offenders should get completely gutted monetarily.

Can he appeal or is he not arguing it?

@Rappin

I mean, he can argue it, but what his argument going to be? It pretty dam clear what he was doing.  Hell even Dolce is saying the tainted supplement is not going to help Jones with what he popped for. He might try it, but only a naive fool would buy it.  He also lucky as hell, that the last test he received was a month out, if he received more test leading up, he might have popped for even more ****, like Chael did. I can't believe they did not test him for an entire month leading up to the fight.

Mendes won't appeal. His initial statement after the failure was an apology, not a denial.

@AnAlias  No it won't.  Maybe a decent portion of the fighters won't take the risk, but I doubt it will be a dramatic stop to the proliferation of PEDs in the sport of MMA.  To me, this encourages fighters to cheat and beat the system with drugs that won't get detected. And you can shame them all you want, but it still won't stop them from taking them.

What encourages them? Someone getting caught encourages people to cheat? That does not make any sense. People will cheat, but the more people who get caught cheating, the less people will try cheating. The easier it is to cheat, the more people cheat, not the other way around.

What encourages them? Short answer: money.
