I agree with vanwham... fitch is THE GRINDER and BJ has been a notorious gasser where as Fitch seems to have cardio for days and a fairly strong chin (look at the GSP fight, he couldn't be stopped) ...if this makes it out of the first two minutes I can almost guarantee you that Fitch will win

I firmly believe Fitch is the 2nd best WW in the world behind GSP. However, BJ's skill set offers some interesting challenges for him. I have Fitch by decision. If Fitch can get past Alves' striking, he can get by BJ's. If Frankie can take BJ down at will, so can Fitch.

The 3 round advantage could go to Fitch OR BJ.  Here's why:

Fitch can grind out a decision victory more easy over 3 rounds.
BJ is only good usually the first 3 rounds, so he has his best rounds to get the KO or SUB.

Close fight, I couldn't pick a winner, but I'm biased and going with Fitch!!!

I think Fitch is going to surprise a lot of people.. I will roll with him grinding on BJ Penn for the first two round and then pulling off a TKO in the third.

Prediction: Fitch  |  Decision

I think B.J. could knock Fitch out.  Honestly though I'm imagining Fitch controlling this one from bell to bell.

Its interesting because BJ Penn had brought matt hughes to his camp to prepare for this fight and matt hughes is a well known wrestler. Hopefully fitch doesnt think hes gonna get an easy victory over The Prodigy.

I'm a huge Penn fan and can't pick against him regardless of who he is fighting...I can see BJ controlling this fight in round 1 and stuffing Fitch's TD, but sometime in round 2 BJ gasses and Fitch will control the rest of the fight going on to a decision victory...However I will never pick against Baby Jay and I'm predicting him to catch Fitch standing and finishing in round 2 with a RNC

Good style matchup for Penn. Prepare to be surprised when the unchokeable Fitch is in the grips of the RNC master.

FITCH!!!   I think he'll be too big too strong just like Matt Hughes was, but the question is can BJ land that 1 punch KO on a technical striker like Fitch?  I don't think he will.  Plus, Fitch is a legit blackbelt in BJJ, he'll be able to hold his own.

Prediction: Fitch  |  Decision

Like many people on this thread I am a Penn fan who believes Fitch will grind out a decision on this one. Penn has been undoubtedly  dominant at LW being able to devistate bigger LW wrestler power houses like Sherk and Sanchez. I believe that those to fighters made the critical mistake of trying to stand with BJ and fell victim to his qucik and crisp boxing. Penn has also had success at WW, with notable wins over Hughes (twice) and suffering an extreamly close decision loss to st.pierre in there first fight. I do see several problems for BJ in this fight, first of all being size, Fitch has a considerably bigger fighter than penn, Penn has had success as mentioned earlier against bigger oponents, but he's also been utterly dominated by them i.e. Penn pierre II, Penn Hughes II. Fitch has the size and wrestling ability to put BJ on his back, I also believe he has the athleticism to punish BJ on the ground hold him down for significant periods of time. As lynx guy mentioned earlier you don't get to 13-1 in the greatest MMA promotion without having great submission defense, so I can't see BJ pulling off a submission against Fitch

BJ Penn has two stylistic deficiencies as a fighter - fighters who are quicker with a wide array of striking and fighters that are bigger and stronger grapplers. Jon Fitch wins rounds 2&3 in a lackluster performance after an explosive round 1. I'll be reading the results before it airs to even see if it's worthy of my $54.99..... Damn the economy
