Incredible fight. Take it for what it's worth. Best case scenario for the UFC is for Rumble to win. Only one of the top contenders to not lose to Jones. Cormier winning would cheapen the belt a tad IMO.

@skelliher How would a Cormier victory cheapen the belt exactly?

Tough fight to call. I hate seeing Cormier get an instant rematch for the belt but given the circumstances it makes sense. I see Johnson finally getting the belt he deserves.

I don't know if it would cheapen the belt.  Either way, the winner won't be looked at as the true champ.

But then if Jones comes back and fights the winner, it would more intriguing for it to be vs. Johnson than it would be vs. Cormier.  We've already seen Jones handle Cormier, so it wouldn't be a terribly compelling comeback fight.

It would absolutely cheapen the belt for someone who recently lost to Jon Jones to have it. I know you guys all Hate Jones, and I'm not a fan either, but think for one ******* second.

Pretty obvious how it would cheapen the belt. Cormier lost to Jones three months ago.

Pretty bad for the UFC"s already-awful 205 division.

@skelliher But is it the fault of Cormier for taking the fight or the fault of the UFC for not trying to keep 205 stocked with as much talent as they can find?  Keep in mind that the UFC haven't exactly been adding a lot of names to Light Heavyweight outside of the occasional fighter or two.  Hell, I can't remember the last time the UFC has done a TUF with Light Heavyweights.

Winning the belt coming off a loss is obviously a little sketch.

That being said, I really want to see DC/Rumble.

They can stock the division with whoever they want dude, noone on earth is a better light heavyweight than Jon Jones. You know that right? I have to wonder what you are even trying  to say.

It looks like Anderson's record is safe until RDA defends his title 10 times.

@Hornet: I don't think you're reading me right.

I'm excited for Rumble/Cormier and it's nobody's fault.

It's the nature of the situation that a dominant champion vacating his belt cheapens the belt temporarily. Robbie Lawler does not exude the same aura as champ that GSP did, nor will the winner of Rumble/Cormier. Now, if Rumble wins and defends for two years, sure.

But a dominant champion vacating a belt does damage to the title.

@buffalo What I am saying is that this is the fault of the UFC for not bringing in fighters to replace the fighters who have left the company and try and build up new contenders outside of Gustafsson, Cormier, Rumble, Evans (when healthy), and Teixeira.  Especially now that Phil Davis has left for Bellator.  I'm not saying Jones isn't the best LHW on the earth right now, you silly goose.  I'm saying that if the UFC focused a little bit on re-building back the heavier weight classes as much as they focus on creating new lower weight classes, then the 205 division wouldn't be as thinned out talent wise as it is right now; and maybe then the UFC could somewhat salvage this **** situation, and lessen the blow of losing the best P4P fighter in the world to a felony hit and run.

As top-heavy as the division is, LHW is in a better shape than it has been in years. Defending his title against Cormier as he did was worth more than his previous six title defenses combined (excluding Gus).

still though, whether you think the weight class is thin or stacked, nobody else deserves to be called ¨champion of the world¨ besides Jon Jones. That's the point i was tying to make. I'm glad the confusion is at an end.

This will be a fun fight and I am very excited for it but as far as the belt goes whoever gets it I hope recognizes they are just holding on to it until JBJ returns. Skelli is right on about the belt being cheapened just like in the WW division. Yeah Robbie has the gold right now and Rumble or DC will in a few weeks but everyone knows who the real best 170 and 205er are in the world.

GSP certainly isn't the best WW after the Hendricks fight.
