Apparently main event. Not sure if Ali is saying it's official, or if that's what he wants.

I guess the UFC's thinking is that both have challenged Aldo for the belt already so they don't to preserve both of them as future challengers.

Especially since they have McGregor in the wings, this actually clears the path for him to be the number one contender after Swanson/Edgar.

That is, as long as Aldo is still holding the belt. Because he will get immediate rematch if he happens to lose along the way.

I get why this fight is happening, I just hate the matchup for Cub. Really wanted to see him fight Aldo, but I think Edgar's wrestling is going to stifle Cub. Mind says Edgar wrestles his way to a fairly clear decision, heart wants Cub to KTFO Edgar.

EDIT: Didn't notice until just a second ago that this is in Phoenix. If Henderson beats Dos Anjos, I think he might end up headlining in a #1 Contender's fight. Possible opponents include: TJ Grant, Donald Cerrone, and Bobby Green.

@zarog Henderson is not fighting for a number one contendership for quite some time. He's going to need to go a long run (6+ fights), or prey that Pettis losses. Aldo, Eddie Alvarez, TJ Grant, and eventually Nurmagomedov are going to get their chance before Henderson does again.

I see what you're saying about Aldo, but that's assuming he moves up (which, we have no idea when or even if that will happen). Eddie Alvarez is under contract with Bellator and we have no time table for his return to action nor his potential release, so that's essentially out the window. Khabib is out for the rest of the year with a torn meniscus, though he might get the next shot upon his return. In addition to all of that, Henderson has been clearing out the contenders while Pettis has been healing, doing TUF, and prepping to fight Gilbert Melendez (why is he getting a title shot?).

With the way things currently stand, maybe Henderson will have to get 4 or 5 in a row (depends on number of finishes, but remember RDA would be #3 on his current streak if he does win), but who else is there currently? RDA (whom Henderson is fighting, but RDA has only 1 win on his current streak), Cerrone (who also got blasted by Pettis, but has since won 4 fights), Bobby Green (solid win streak, could definitely see him being 1 win away from a title fight), Michael Johnson (no idea on the status of his injury and he's still at least one big name away from a title fight), and Myles Jury (whom is set to face Gomi in late September, but would still be one big win away from a title fight). TJ Grant would be solid, but he's been out forever and as far as I know there's still no timetable for his return.

Henderson is taking on RDA in August, and I'm not saying he'll get past RDA (though I think he will), I'm merely stating that the December card would make sense in terms of finding a #1 Contender due to Pettis fighting on the 6th. Phoenix is a smaller market in comparison to a lot of the places the UFC goes and they will likely want someone from the area to be on the card. Henderson makes sense as he trains out of Glendale (a suburb of Phoenix). In addition, Henderson would be on a 3-fight win streak prior to the event, assuming he gets past RDA.

Eddie Alvarez is out of a contract after his next fight, and that should come late fall this year. He came close to being able to sign with the UFC last time, this time there won't be any restrictions. I could see the UFC giving an immediate shot at the UFC belt. Nurmagomedov will be out for six months, but then he'll be thrown in the mix straight away once he returns. Same with TJ Grant.

Granted there are a lot of issues with all the potential LW challengers. However Pettis is not fighting Melendez until December so there is plenty of time to sort things out and not have to recycle guys like Henderson who are just competitive enough for Pettis.

Henderson has the name recognition to headline Fight Nights as a former champion. But he doesn't have the style or the personality to challenge for a UFC belt again unless he goes on an undisputed run where he can't be denied any further.

Bader, Dollaway, and Varner are all from the area and train there as well. A card like Frankie Edgar vs. Cub Swanson, Ryan Bader vs. Anthony Johnson, CB Doloway vs. Luke Rockhold, and Jamie Varner vs. Evan Dunham would be a good enough card to pull solid rankings during the NFL season and their promotional muscle; and enough local flair to create enough buzz especially since this is the first time the UFC will be in Phoenix.

I have to go with Edgar here, Stephens gave Cub a very hard time, that fight could have gone either way. And cub starts off slow in his fights IMO.

So who should Moraga fight now that Formiga is injured?  I would think they'd offer it to Wilson Reis.

Good question.

Really looking forward to Claudinha/JJ and even more so after their staredown. Fan of both so I'm torn.

Rooting for Entwistle, Kimura, Whitely, Herman, Barbarena, & Gates but picked against all of them :(
