Really ******* weird. Pettis was injured for his fight on Aug. 3rd, but he's okay to fight on Aug. 31st for a different championship fight which just so happens to be in his hometown, which he stated that "he should be fighting at" not too far after he injured himself for the Aldo fight?

Either way, Grant will beat both of these guys. Pettis being the more difficult matchup for him.

Pretty bummed about this one.

A month is a pretty good amount of time to recover from an injury. Especially if it's just a muscle injury, that's plenty of extra time.

I love this match up as much as everybody else, and I think it will be amazing. just like the first one.

but seriously, this FW/LW hoping around is getting out of hand... and I must be part of the minority around here, but I was really looking forward to see what Grant could do to Benson.

@amp112

While that could be true, that's only based on assumption and not facts. The facts are that Pettis pulled out a championship fight because of an injury, only to get another championship fight 4 weeks later because someone else is injured? I don't find that fair to either division.

After the injury, all we heard was Pettis talking about "what he wanted". Personally, I feel he shouldn't have even tried to go down to FW to begin with. While I agree he is the next contender at LW, I feel that pulling out of a championship fight in a weight class you haven't even fought in shouldn't be rewarded.

Christ, poor Grant.  What a blow for him.  I was really looking forward to seeing if he could pull off the remarkable and beat Bendo to pull off the most out of nowhere title run ever.

However,that said, the UFC really has gotten lucky here.  Bendo vs. Pettis 2 will unquestionably sell and no UFC 164 will appeal to a hell of a lot of people who were on the fence beforehand about this card.  In addition, now we can avoid the awkward Pettis getting a title shot in a division he's never fought in before crap (in the strangest, quesionable, and most roundabout way possible).

Plus, now we can finally stop listening to Pettis ***** about his damn title shot, here's your chance bro.  As for Grant, well hopefully he gets better soon and he gets to fight again soon.  If I had to bet, I could see him fighting the winner here.

The UFC will draw more buys. Pettis will get a title shot with home field advantage in Milwaukee. Grant gets a lot richer with the injury. Everyone wins.
