I'm going mostly by how Rory manhandled Carlos Condit.  For 2.5 rounds, he won all the exchanges, took Carlos down at will, and dominated him on the ground.  The only reason he lost was the ref couldn't wait 8 seconds.

But if you want to ignore all that and pretend it didn't happen, that's fine.  Rory's performance against Condit was easily more impressive than what Erick did with Brenneman, a much easier fighter.

@Messiah I understand; if he ko's Fitch, which wouldn't surprise me, that would mean he beat Brenneman and Fitch. This should put him against someone in the Ellenberger/Kampmann/Hendricks/Kos range for a contender's bout. I like Silva, too, and think he is the real deal; to me, if he fought Fitch 100 times I think he'd win at least 80, with many finishes.

@Burgess I want to see MacDonald against higher competition, and although BJ will prove a good test I expect Rory to win and face someone higher up in the Kos/Ellenberger range, and quick. A fight with Rory and Silva is the kind of fight that the UFC needs to make imo, it would be awesome. But I think MacDonald doesn't have the wow factor, and his only test so far has been Condit, who lost the rounds to Rory (who he outstruck, btw) not because he was inferior or dominated but because he didn't come out to the right tune/plan. In a rematch I would definitely pick Condit.

Are you serious? In Rory/Condit, Rory was out. It doesn't matter if there is 1 second if a person is KOed they lost. If Condit had kept wailing on Rory, that puts Rory's health in danger and that would indicate an irresponsible ref like Dan Mirgliotta in Mir/Carwin. I guess you thought the ref should have let Mendes get through the round because there was 1 second left even though Jose Aldo had knocked him the **** out?

The facts were Rory was not defending himself. He was beat and you don't win a fight by winning 2.5 rounds and then getting KOed. Condit won because he had the resolve and steel balls to go out and show who the better fighter was in the third round. It wasn't even a fluke KO or anything.

@Wish I agree there, too, some say Rory had 8 seconds left but in reality he had done nothing for at least a minute-2 mins before that and was getting abused at that point.

Carlos Condit beat Rory MacDonald, but that doesn't mean that Rory shouldn't still be higher up than Erick Sivla. I think this is my favorite division right now.
Georges, Carlos, Erick Silva, Rory, Kampmann, Hendricks....

I mean guys why are you making this harder than it has to be?

UFC 152

Penn/MacDonald

UFC 153

Silva/Fitch

UFC 154
Condit/GSP
Hendricks/Kampmann

So why not the winners of the two fights at 154 then MacDonald/Silva for the number 1 contender if they both win?

I don't like comebacks. Why? Because then people actually think the winner is BETTER than the loser of the fight when most of the time, eh. Anyone wanna tell me that Okami's a better fighter than Boetsch?

Rory's a better fighter than Condit in my eyes, so that already makes him AT LEAST the 7th best fighter or so. Condit is not as good as everyone tends to say he is...Fitch would destroy him and it would be hilarious to see Condit fans running around like chickens with their heads cut off.

If Erick Silva beats Jon Fitch convincingly , he deserves the next title shot no doubt. Jon Fitch is the 2nd best welterweight on the planet, why SHOULDN'T Silva get the next shot? If he beats Fitch soundly, he's better than Hendricks and he's DEFINITELY better than Martin Kampmann, the man who people think could beat GSP when the dude can't beat GSP's ******* manslave. The man lost to Jake Shields and HE'S GONNA BEAT GSP? hahaha people are so stupid sometimes.

WAR FITCH *****, IDIOTS BETTER RECOGNIZE.

@Anik Guess Chael is better than Anderson then, since Anderson came from behind in both fights.

wrong. that fight isn't comparable, because a) Anderson did it twice and b) the 2nd fight has Anderson dominate the WHOLE ROUND, not land some fluke punch a la Boetsch or Mike Russow (vs Mr. Duffee). Gosh wish, use your logic you're a smart guy.

You should already know about the greatness of Jon Fitch, you're a smart guy.

Anik, if you stop a guy, you are better than him. Until he manages to prove otherwise. Right Now Hendricks' mane is longer than Fitch's. Sorry.

If I hear someone else talk about a punch that was a fluke, lucky, or by chance, someone is getting punched on accident.

Buffalo, you can't really think Boetsch is better than Okami right?

And no one will ever tell me that Russow is better than Duffee. Still think Duffee would be a top 10 HW if he came to the UFC.

He had the flukest knock out lost ever, and then got obliterated by Overeem but who wouldn't? Like maybe 2 guys in the world?

Get the Duff back in the UFC

LET HIM EAT!!!

Rockz it happens I'm sorry, it is luck sometimes. The argument against this is that the person who landed the punch did what they were trying to do. Well if I am a basketball player and I hit a full court shot at the buzzer, even though that's what I was trying to do, it was still lucky as **** and not my skill, sometimes you get lucky and things fall into place. Same with a hail mary, just because it works, doesn't mean you should have won that game.

@rockz gave you an edit up there ^^^

And I don't ben, I just don't think Boetsch is very good. He was dominated by Okami in those 1st 2 rounds, also people forget that Okami dominated Munoz as well and people seem to think he's so good.

@RockZ & @buffalo ben  Flukes exist. Unless you're willing to tell me that Matt Serra's better than GSP and that Ramerry Sokoudjou is better than Lil Nog and Ricardo Arona.

If you don't think they exist, you're foolish. Remember the saying "anything can happen in MMA"? That pretty much says it right there.

I don't exactly spill my beer watching Okami or Boetsch fight, but Okami got knocked out on his feet. It wasn't just one punch either. So yeah, i guess i do think Boetsch is better than him.

GSP kicked matt serra's ass. You have to prove a fluke is a fluke. Hendricks gets to drink Fitch's milkshake. Sorry.
