So two questions coming out of that AMAZING Jon Bones Jones performance.  #1 -- who at 205 has any chance?  #2, where does he go in the P4P list?  thoughts?

#4 P4P, ahead of Dominick Cruz, and maybe higher after another fight or two.  Nobody at 205 will beat Jones.  And soon it may be that nobody at heavyweight will beat Jones.

I'm putting Jon Jones at #3 now.  Jose Aldo has done a lot of great things in his weight class, but Jones just put a beat down on Shogun that I couldn't even imagine in my head.  I never ever would have imagined Shogun tapping to strikes.  Un-******-believable!  I was a huge believer that Jones was going to take the title with ease and now I'm a huge believer that he will go down as the greatest light heavyweight and possibly the greatest fighter to ever live.  He's only 23 who knows what the hell he's going to be able to accomplish.

Oh yeah and the 205er that can beat Jones doesn't exist yet as far as I can see.  Hell I'm beginning to wonder if there's even a heavyweight that will be able to stop him when he decides it's time to move up.  I wonder if people will continue to question the Jones hype.

Anderson Silva *could* beat him, if he gets past GSP.  But I would favor Jones with an 84.5 inch reach vs. 77.5 for Anderson (Shogun's was 76 so Anderson would have the same problem Shogun did).

I think Alistair Overeem would destroy Jones, as would Velasquez, but I don't consider those fair fights considering the weight difference. Jones is really not a heavyweight, though he could certainly clean the clocks of a lot of middle tier and even some top tier heavyweights.

I can't think of anyone else right now.  Pretty crazy stuff from Jonny Bones.

When I think of Jones as a heavyweight I imagine him more around the size of his brother who was in his corner looking like a hulk.  Jones would definitely be able to bulk up to a beastly 265.  But that shouldn't be for a few more years.  He's got some light heavyweight records to break.

I gotta agree with my boy Lynx Guy, Jones looked outstanding! I said going into this fight that nothing that happned in the fight would suprise me with two such unpredictable combatants. However Jones tore up Shogun on the feet and took him down when ever he got a little tired of beatin on his ass on the stand up game. I would defenetly have to move him to either the # 3 spot, Aldo has not nearly been as dominant as Jones on his rise to super stardom. As for who at 205 could beat jones, after that I am going to say Rashad is the only one who has a chance, as he has trained with Jones and has stellar striking and wrestling, havin said that I think the shear size and unorthadox nature of Jones will be enough to overwhelm Rashad. Can't wait for his first title defense, and hopfully a long healthy career filled with handing hopeful champions their ass on a platter.

It's just silly to question the Jones hype at this point.  He has 2 things that you can't teach or learn: He has the perfect body/frame, and he has the most creative mind.  It's almost completely unfair.

Umm can we also just mention the fact that he helped to FOIL A ROBBERY before he fought today?! Six weeks nnotice, foils a robbery, then takes the LHW belt. All in a day's work. #4 P4P for me right now behind silva, gsp, and aldo. One more fight and i'll argue for #1. Depends on how he man handles Rashad. he is simply amazing

This Jones guy may be pretty good...
I am actually interested to see him fight Rashad though. Rashad is very quick for a LHW and has pretty good wrestling. Rashad also trained with him constantly so he should have some idea of how to attack him.

I have him at #4 behind Spider, Aldo and GSP.  Although Rashad has arguably the best chance because of his wrestling, I think if Machida has his head on straight he could give Bones a tough fight, but I'd still put my money on JJ in that one.  And cross promotional (kind of), Dan Henderson would be interesting.

i really don't think rashad has a chance.  rashad's a guy that's small for 205, that struggled against tito ortiz and michael bisping . . . it's just not gonna happen for him in my view.

the only other point i'd make about jon jones is that there are probably a few dozen other guys out there like him, only they are in the nba . . . and the nfl . . . and major league baseball.  it's not that jones is a once in a generation athlete, it's that he is one of the first examples of supreme athletic talent that would ordinarily go into more lucrative sports instead going into mma.  as the sport grows i expect more guys like him to emerge.

I said it after the Bader fight and I'll say it again.  Jones can put ANY light heavyweight on his back and KEEP him there.  As long as that's the case I don't see how anyone possibly has a chance.  I like Phil Davis as a prospect and think that he's destined for the top 5, but I also think he would be manhandled my Jones just like I said Jones was going to manhandle Shogun (and people voted that post down a few times, ha).

The only question I have is how many times does Jones defend his belt before moving up?  I say 7.

@jeremy agreed on the level of athletic talent normally reserved for other sports.  but jones ALSO has a unique mind. so creative, thinks so fast, so confident and analytical, and focused.

Well said Greg.  Jones truly is a special athlete that only comes around once in a while.  He's only been training for 3 years and already he's the hands down most creative fighter I've ever watched and he does it effectively.  He's not recklessly trying to make spinning elbows and flying knees land.  It's like he calculates every move to maximize his damage and minimize any damage taken.  Jones looks like he just finished working out while Shogun looks like he was hit by a truck and then dragged by it for a few miles.  I'm kind of in a state of shock right now with the way Jones was able to demolish Shogun.  I've never seen an athlete enter a sport the way Jones has.
