Strikeforce Wiki Update Wiki

In one of the most anticipated heavyweight fights of the year, the longstanding consensus number one heavyweight in the world, Fedor Emelianenko, took on Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu master Fabricio Werdum in a fight most fans expected Fedor to win. Just 1:09 into the first round, however, Fedor had tapped out for the first time in his career, succumbing to a Triangle Choke / Armbar combination.

With the win, Werdum became the first fighter to decisively beat the Russian phenomenon known as “The Last Emperor.” The former Pride Heavyweight Champion’s only previous loss had come via TKO due to a cut when he was hit with an illegal elbow in 2000, which many believed should have been recorded as a No Contest.
