What is everyone's feelings and opinions about Bones getting the title shot?Personally I think the winner of Rampage and Silva should've gotten first shot,although that is months away.I am hoping Rampage comes through and gets to face the Champ! Whether it be Bones or Shogun!!!

@tacoma new fans isnt a bad thing :P
If jones wins i will be impressed.  Im a fan im just not as sold on his skills as others are.  The bader win did sell me a bit more tho.
If jones dismantles shogun, who would then be able to beat him?  Thats my worry if he seems too undefeatable i think it could play against their goal and be a big let down when he (like them all) eventually lose.

I'm not saying that it is a bad thing that they gave him the shot. It's good for the sport of MMA.

If he wins, he gains the persona of being 'unbeatable' like many were giving Lesnar. If he loses, he fights some more upper tier competition and works back into contention.

I agree with Tacoma.  Jones is on a roll, and has had some impressive victories.  What's wrong with giving him a title shot?  Hell...the UFC has given much less deserving opponents a chance at the belt in the past.

@rampagefan380 awesome thread!
Silva handled this, like he usually does, almost perfectly with what he had available. Rampage couldnt make the the date, they asked the next best contender.. Jonny Bones. He is more than deserving with what hes done in the last year alone, and his complete domination of Bader proved this. Now as for him being a favorite... this i dont agree with, shogun is the champ and is on another level than what Jones has faced as of yet. I think he will be able to carry his own, but i see this one going deep into the championship rounds, shogun is too dangerous off his back for this to be an easy fight for jones, not to mention his world class striking. My barn is burning just thinking about it....

Did two people really just give Jon Jones a ranking inside the Top 5, WHY?? The only guy he has fought that could even be considered to be a top 10 LHW is Bader and Bader would be 7 or 8 at best. But whatever to each his own I guess.

Anyway back on topic, No I dont think Jones deserves the shot yet. The only reason I think he got it is because he's hot right now and people like him. He needs at least one more good fight with a fighter like Thiago Silva, Evans, Jackson, or Machida. Like I've said before I like Jones and think he has tons of potential, but he's not ready for Shogun yet.

All I will say is that I'm deep, deep on the Bones Jones bandwagon. Fully buckled in.  There's only a handful of guys on the planet that I would pick to beat him right now, and they're all heavyweights.

To me only 3 fighters appear to be breaking the rules of the matrix: Jose Aldo, Anderson Silva, and Jon Jones.

@LoneRonin. I put Jones at 5 now. He's behind Shogun, Rashad, Rampage, and Machida. I had Bader ranked at 6 prior to the Jones fight and Jones just dominated him. If you dominate a mid top 10 that badly you are top 5. Forrest was my previous top 5 but he has been inactive and has struggled in his last two fights against fighters who, though talented, are not top 10 LHWs. There is no doubt in my mind that Jones it top 5 now. I can't logically put any but the 4 I listed in front of him.
Also as far as title shots go. You shouldn't have to jump through flaming hoops to get one. If you are top 10 a title shot can be justified. If you are top 5 there should be 0 question if a fighter can have a shot. Really it's the champion who has to run the gauntlet. 1 mid top 10 win especially a dominate one can justify a title shot, two especially with no losses would almost demand a title shot. Especially if you have never had one and everyone ranked above you is unavailable. The champion needs an opponent and it should be the highest ranked opponent available he hasn't faced and that opponent is Jon Jones.

Not sure how you put Machida ahead of him. He has lost two fights in a row.. I think Shogun, Rampage, and Jones are top three.

If Rashad was healthy I would put Jones at #4

@TacomaTerror, He has wins over the #2 and #1 and his losses are to the #1 and #3 so that would make him #4. Some might say he didn't really beat, but then he really didn't lose to Rampage. The fact of two losses isn't as important as the level of competition. Machida was #2 after losing to Shogun and now #4 after losing to Rampage.

I have Jones ranked #4 right now.  If you're ranked 4th in the division, you are certainly worthy of a title shot.  Aside from that, Jones is the favorite in some circles to win against Shogun.  If that's the case, then how can anyone argue that Jones doesn't deserve a title shot?  Hahah.
