I agree with Minotauro. Maia may win in our eyes but the judges prefer top position over active guard so weidman may pick a controversial decision.

For me, this is the epitome of picking with my head over my heart. Maia is one of my favorite fighters, but I think Weidman will have the wrestling skill and strength necessary to avoid being submitted. If thats the case, this fight could be boring as hell. That being said, I will be rooting like crazy for Demian to pull of a sweet armbar or triangle.

if you read my post on mendes vs aldo, you'd notice that i prefaced it with "if aldo doesn't knock mendes out in the first 2 rounds.", so, it's not as if i hadn't accounted for that possibility. who's to say what would have happened if aldo hadn't blatantly held the cage to avoid that takedown. we all know aldo's strength doesn't last into later rounds, just saying.
but, irregardless, you are underestimating chris weidman. pick maia, but you're wrong and i'll come back to say i told you so when wrestling trumps bjj once again.
weidman is a monster.

Maia hasn't got a sub win ever since Nate Marquardt knocked him out. I say he wins easy, jus not by submission.

I'm actually going with Weidman by decision. I think he will use his size, speed and 78" reach to stay on the outside and use his superior wrestling to keep this one standing, and box/kickbox his way to a win. At least that's what I hope he does, he does have a tremendous ground game, and the huge wrestling edge, but I think this is one opponent where he should avoid the ground at all costs. That's not to say Weidman couldn't possibly take Maia down and use top control and GnP his way to victory, but with his distinct size and reach advantage using his wrestling in reverse to stay on his feet and picking Maia apart from the outside would be the easiest path to victory.

*** Weidman is the favorite? I thought for sure he would be the moderate underdog.

@Fresno I don't think he is, I just believe he has the skill and size to win this fight. If he keeps it standing.

I just thought for sure that based on the level of competition they've faced and the experience level of Maia, he would be the favorite to win it. Personally though I also think Weidman will pull it out.

I think Weidman takes this one--the line is probably a little high but that's because the public is going to be favoring him. Maia's good but Weidman's ground game is top notch. He's going to be able to take him down at will and work ground & pound without a problem. Maia's only chance is pulling off a slick submission, but I think Weidman's wrestling is just too good for Maia. Weidman by 29-28 x 3 UD, maybe even a late TKO.

A little high? I thought the line would be +210 for Weidman and -160 for Maia. -160 for Weidman is insane, if you wanna bet on this fight do it now before oddsmakers realize how ******** they are and change the line. They'll probably make it a pick 'em by next saturday.

And I will happily bet you that it won't go past -140 by fight night. The public is carrying this line--I believe it is a pick'em, but there's no way the line goes that way given how high everyone is on Weidman.
