Prediction: wrong Omigawa   wrong Decision

How is this fight on the prelim card?? Winner of this fight could be in line for a title shot. Omigawa stays a little bit busier to take it.

Mendes will buy time on the feet before taking it to the ground where he is too athletic and too powerful for omigawa. Money by ud.

Going out on a limb with this pick. Mendes has looked great, but hasn't really fought any great wrestlers yet. Omigawa should test how good Mendes' wrestling really is.

Omigawa has a big say in the entire FW divisions rankings. He's beaten Hioki, Takaya,  and Sandro who are all for the most part in everyones Top 10. If he loses this fight their stock drops in my ranking as well. Regardless, i have Mendes by superior wrestling and athleticism in this fight. He'll be the next challenger for Aldo even tho i think he should have atleast one more fight afer winning this one.

Chad Mendes is definitely capable of shutting Omigawa down for 15 minutes on the floor.
I think I win for Mendes earns him a shot at the winner of Aldo/Hominick, he knows what's on the line.

Interesting theory. I haven't really thought too much about the FW title picture past Aldo/Hominick in April, but now that you mention it, Mendes probably would have a strong case for the next shot should he defeat Omigawa, and especially if he could finish him, which I doubt.

Yeah I think there are definitely title shot implications. Who else would they go with?  All the wind just got taken out of Grispi's sails.  Nunes and Poirier nobody has heard of yet and just picked up their first big wins.

I think this fight will have title implications. There is a rumor floating around that UFC is picking up Hioki in order to fight Aldo, because Aldo wants revenge for Sandro, but if that doesn't happen there really isn't anyone else for Aldo. I think that is why this fight is being shown on Spike, and not the Kid vs Johnson fight. The Kid fight will of course be more exciting than any Mendes fight, but they want the Mendes vs Omigawa fight to be shown so they can promote the title shot, i think.

I'd be interested to hear Hioki's contract status.  Sengoku just cancelled it's April event, so it seems big show Japanese MMA is on hold for the forseeable future.  Hioki deserves to be in the UFC, I'd like to see Silva and White make it happen.

A lot of the media were predicting that, if Hominick hadn't beaten Roop, that the winner of Mendes/Omigawa would get the next title shot.  I would assume that will hold true, unless there is a major signing like Hioki.

I'd love to see Hioki challenge Aldo. I'd bet he'll sign with the UFC. As DaiKaiju Wicked pointed out, the postponement of the April Sengoku show seems like a final nail in the coffin for the profitability of Japanese MMA.

I think Hioki is one of the few FW's who would give Aldo a run for his money. Only other people I can think of would be Omigawa, Mendes and Florian if he drops.
