So this event apparently happened earlier this month, but my question is how? I thought the Taliban had banned MMA, and I read a couple articles about fighters/coaches/promoters evacuating the country to start over somewhere else.

@jrs I don't know but they posted videos to their Facebook channel which we used to verify the results:

Supposedly it was in a town called Balkh which is all the way up north close to Tajikistan. Maybe the rules are different there. Or maybe something about this information is false or misleading (maybe it didn't take place in Afghanistan at all).

@Greg it probably did take place in Balkh. From what I understand it's virtually completed avoided the Afghan war and is still considered safe for tourists. At least, the city is.  It's an ancient city. Zoroastrianism was born there. I can see how the event could have happened there unmolested.

I imagine the situation is a bit like Palestine. People tend to think if you travel there you'll be killed by an extremist with a Bazooka but actually that's extremely unlikely. You can buy KFC in Palestine. As long as you don't go looking for ****, follow the rules or try scale fences you're going to be fine 99.9% of the time.
