I am always seeing different types of pictures on twitter of fighters and stuff so I thought I would start a thread where we could put them.

Here's one of the UFC press conference setup, pretty interesting place to do a press conference!

Why shouldn't Aldo fight someone else first? He lost. There is no controversy about that. No dubious decision. No foul. No freak injury. Seriously. I never understood the instant rematch for dominant champions. The only time I've been in favor was for draws and close split decisions which I tend to score as draws anyways.

Just my opinion. I know there was no controversy but defending the title 7 times (10 if you count the WEC belt) is pretty damn impressive and not something that every champion comes along and does. I just feel like that should earn you a chance to get it right back.

I understand that but look at it from the perspective of the he new champion. He has to beat the same guy back to back. Obviously someone's that dominant in the division is going to be back knocking at the doer soon, but the new champion has no obligation to do that fight next. Especially in a situation like this with McGregor playing for two belts,l

True. But if Aldo wants to wait why not do it again after the RDA fight?

the thing is that everyone got an imediate rematch even Rousey was going to get one, except Aldo, Dana is not interested in that rematch, even if Hendricks, Lawler, Cain, Penn, Edgar (vs Bendo)  Maynard (vs Edgar) and Silva got theirs. And  these are only the imediate rematches, but what do you know? Dana is not interested in Aldo having his rematch, and everyone knows why even if they don´t want to talk about it. but that second fight most likely would go very differently, even if Conor could get the W again.

Franklin, you must not have read what I have put in these threads.  The RDA fight makes sense as when McGregor loses, he can still fight at 145 so their fight has nothing to do with taking a risk at all.

A risk would be fighting Aldo or Edgar at 145.

legacy makes a very good point. I disagree on principal with immediate rematches for dethroned champions, but many former champions have been given that opportunity so its unjust to deny it to Aldo who was as dominant a champion as any.

I disagree. Doing something stupid most of the time except for one person doesn't mean it's unjust to not do it for that one person. Besides, judging from both the history of attempts at immediate rematches and history of Aldo injuries I'm 99.9 percent sure Aldo would pull out of the rematch injured anyway.

@Pillory I see where you are coming from and I sort of agree with you and I don´t like imediate rematches either, but even so is someone deserve  an imediate rematch was Silva and Aldo, and its curious the UFC just got tired of rematches right now, just when Aldo lost his belt to Conor and seeing that  Rousey can´t take the fight on summer.

This is why the UFC should not have match making rights. Number one contenders should be determined by a separate entity like in boxing. It's arguable whether or not Aldo deserves a rematch, but if he were a draw he would get it. The UFC being able to make the fights allows them to make not the right match ups, but the match ups they think will net them the biggest profit.

IDK, if the UFC were like boxing Conor would rematch Aldo but then get stripped of the WMMAF featherweight title for not facing mandatory challenger George Roop.

@Anaconda_Choke, because it works swell in boxing doesn't it ... if MMA were like boxing Conor would've never fought Aldo in the first place, Aldo would've used the plethora of ways you can in boxing to avoid him just because he doesn't like him ... rematch wouldn't even be up for discussion.

Also, think about how long it would take any Russian fighter to ever get a title shot (GGG will get to fight the best in the world in his division faster if he transitions to MMA than in the sport he's killing dudes in). Khabib would be able to just go ahead and stay injured because no champ would fight him - dangerous, doesn't have a "selling name" = easiest guy to duck ever) - no one's ducking him in MMA, the minute he's healthy he'll be fast-tracked to the title shot.

All in all the UFC have done a great job giving people the fights they want. No champ has ever been able to duck anyone for too long (even Tito eventually got plastered by Chuck, no matter how hard he tried not to meet him).

Of course, every now and then a Nick Diaz will get GSP on a loss, a Frankie Edgar will have to wait longer than he "deserves" (I hate that word), a Dillashaw that'll get his shot because everyone in his division is dead (worked out pretty well, don't you think?) or a DJ will have to fight a bunch of #7s because there's no one in his division, but that's just the way it goes, you can't be perfect. With timelines, storylines, fighter schedules, business factors and injuries you're going to have to get creative a lot of the time.

There are quite a few things I think the UFC doesn't do well (and a lot I think they do extraordinarily well), but when it comes to title fights they're mostly on the money.  The LAST think I want to happen is for MMA to take a book out of boxing's matchmaking. Bad example.

I don't think it should be run exactly the way boxing is. I just like the idea of having a separate group doing the match making.
