I am always seeing different types of pictures on twitter of fighters and stuff so I thought I would start a thread where we could put them.

Here's one of the UFC press conference setup, pretty interesting place to do a press conference!

GSP is most certainly white! That's like saying Silva isn't black. In fact Silva is less black then GSP is white I assure you. So the score for titles holders by race is as follows:

Black - 3.5

White - 2

Some sort of spanish - 4

Asian - 0.5

 

1. Anderson Silva is not Black

2. Black folks are the decendants of African slaves that have no earthly idea what their actual heritage is. Anderson Silva is Brazilian, so it doesn't apply

3. There is no such thing, biologically, as "races." It is just a man made idea to divide people and for those that came up with the idea to feel superior. My guess is that they were lighter than they were dark.

4. I am Black (as defined above) and a whole lotta White, so I don't have sides, pick sides, or have preferences in terms of skin color or even the shades therein. (With regard to MMA I usually root for Brazilian and Japanese fighters, regardless of their skin tones).

5. How is it that in 2013 this ridiculous idea about "races" is still being floated?!

It pisses me off that people are expected to put their "race" any kind of documentation. I agree with Judo that race is a myth. Any perceived "race" of human can breed with any other perceived "race". We are all the same thing, its just that there is some color variation in humans. That being said, I would call Anderson Silva "black" you know, in light of the fact that his skin is...black.

 

I could care less of what "race" a champion is, just so long as they're respectful, exciting, and fan-oriented.

Anderson's ancestry might trace back to Africa though. He is Afro Brazilian, as people of darker complexion in Brazil are called. I still view him as Brazilian, and would consider him a Latin American. Just as I call people from the USA, Americans. That is is all.

No joke, not 24 hours before I saw this posted I wondered what ever happened to him. I actually almost posted the question here.

@Judo Anderson Silva has his roots in Africa too, so he's black, I'm pretty sure of it. Way back, Portugal was a big maritime power they had slaves too. Ever wonderd why they speak portuguese in Brazil ? Check the history books.

That said...

@dielegend23 is absolutely right on this... brazilians have all sorts of acenstry, ranging from germans, to italians, to french, but of course, portuguese colonists, native indigenous people and african slaves (from the colonial era) are the biggest ones.
