Big step down from the Lawler fight, but still solid.

this is a good match, at least now that Lawler is out.

I think gastelum can dominate the clinch and take Cowboy to the ground and punish him there. Gastelum will need to be very carefull with his positioning or Cowboy is gonna tap him

I wonder who Masvidal's opponent will be now? Unless he got injured and I hadn't heard.

Interesting but not as much as the Lawler fight.

Cerrone will point this out against a VERY tuff Gastelum.. Cerrone is on a roll and his Muay Tai is exceptional.. I just dont see it hurting Gastelum as well as poitning him out

Cerrone has been on a tear. This will be a good test for him at welter.

Cerrone have a way better striking overall. He should be able to deal with gatselum clinch and ground game and eventually tap him out BUT i think Cerrone will be smart enough to keep it on his feets and win by decision

Interesting to see how he does against a great wrestler.

Um, we already saw him against a great wrestler. Story Wrestling is better then Gastelums.

I don't know if Story is a better wrestler ... he does go to his wrestling more though. Gastelum will stand and strike even if he's losing in that department (he doesn't grasp that he is, even when he is) and tends to go to his wrestling only when he's in danger while as Story incorporates it heavily in his gameplan.

I think Gastelum will strike with Cerrone.

@yossgold If he starts to go for some trades and exchanges with Cerrone without incorporating wrestling or at least clinch, i really don't know how you see him takes it. Cerrone's muay thai is way better, Gatselum to me looks like a correct boxer with heavy hands. He's polyvalent and resilient which is for me his main power

Even if he not better, he at least as good, though id wager he is better since he out wrestled a roided up Hendricks.  Regardless, as you pointed out he uses his wrestling a lot more.  Gas seems to either wrestle or strike, he does not seem capable of mixing the two. Though his power does some what worry me with Cerrone, since Gas is surprisingly fast for his size.

@Franklin880088 Yup. Same worry here. Cerrone's mid section is the key for Gatselum i think

@AlexSpan, what in my "Cerrone  |  Submission  |  Round 3" pick (or anything I wrote) makes you think I think Gastelum's going to win?

I said that's what I think he'll do, not that's how I think he'll win the fight.

I think Gastelum trusts his hands (which are pretty good, he's technical, throws good combinations) a bit more than he should and he fails to recognize when he's not winning the standup, something that may cost him the fight against a guy like Cerrone.

I personally think this fight goes a lot like Cerrone's past 2 fights. Cote, Story and Gastelum are pretty similar, with each having a few differences in what they do a bit better, but basically, same build, same speed (more or less), all tough and durable but don't do anything exceptionally amazingly. I would'nt go so far as to saying they're the exact same fighter, but as far as the "questions" they present Cerrone, they're more or less the same ones he has to answer with Gastelum maybe being the best of the 3 (though not by a huge margin). So Gastelum will be more technical on the feet, but I believe he has the lesser cardio of the 3 and will fade faster (especially under the pace Cerrone dictates), he's also not as explosive as Story is.

@yossgold My bad, didn't check your prediction.

BTW, i completely agree with your last paragraph analysis

Hope Cerrone will be able to get this one and go for a shot maybe after Fergusson or a revenge with RDA

@yoss I agree.

Only way i see Cerrone lossing, is if he gets caught by a big bomb early, but out side of that I think he does what he did two the last two guys. Your spot on about them all being similar.

@Alex

He fighting RDA, would be kinda a foolish move.  It would be in the division below the one he currently has a  streak in, to fight a guy on a two fight losing streak.  Just would not make much sense for him to take.
