Woodley vs. Kim

This is the official discussion thread for Woodley vs. Kim. Let's see what you've got.

Kim has the significant size advantage but Woodley is the more athletic and quicker of the two; I like Kim's chances of surviving the first two rounds and taking Woodley to a decision

Rooting for Dong. Woodley is better on paper but he's extremely beatable for a guy with his talents.

Damn son. Had no idea this was so close.

Kim by UD. I want to see Kim fight Rory.

A lot of people picking Kim, but I'm not sure how well he can fare considering he likes to back straight up into the fence against pressure striking and his wrestling is not nearly up to par with Woodley's.

Their wrestling abilities cancel each other out, so this will likely be fought on the feet, where Woodley is just too dangerous to not get a finish.

If we're negating wrestling*, Woodley fires bombs and can end it early, but the longer a fight goes, Dong outstrikes his opponents, Woodley doesn't.  I'm undecided atm but I'd need decent confidence he'd end it to take Woodley.  Dong throws way more combos, lands a lot more, Woodley has a couple early highlight reel TKO's.....  I take Dong if I think it goes the distance which is where I'm leaning.  The further it goes the more Woodley fights the way Glover devolved against Bones imo.


*I'm not saying they cancel each other out, just responding to above posts.

Interesting but you have to consider strength of opponenet, especially striking skill. Out of the above, Condit, Rory, & Nate are better than any of Woodley's opponents with the possible exception of Silva when it comes to striking, Shields always makes opponents hesitant to strike, Condit KOed Kim, and Silva was taking over their fight in the 2nd before getting caught. 

Not that it means Woodley is better than Kim or that I think he'll win, just showing how pretty much useless "statistics" are in MMA without context. 

Woodley's striking looked pretty good against Condit. Rory embarrassed him, but Rory is on another level from Dong. And somebody will have to explain the wrestling cancelling out, honestly I don't see that. I know Kim has good judo, but I think Woodley drags him down from off the fence. But honestly I see Woodley landing a big shot and finishing.

Not sure if Woolley can finish Kim but they don't match up well striking. Kim loads up power punches and swings for the fences. Woolley will fight smart and avoid the power punches. Woodley wins, not sure type yet

I just threw the statistics out for fun, they really can be manipulated to suit most points, but they create discussion.  I'm not touching the wrestling cancelling out discussion.  One interesting thing in this fight though is some people say Woodley loads up and Kim will be more precise with peppering shots and some people feel the exact opposite that Kim loads up and Woodley will be the guy picking his opponent apart.  Just interesting.

Woodley by KO in the 2nd round. Woodley likes to draw you in so he can counter and or go for the takedown when his backs against the fence. 

I take Woodley in every department: striking, wrestling, etc....but only in the first round. If the Dong can survive those first five minutes, he will have a much better chance of taking the next 2, because Woodley gasses midway through the second in most of his fights.

Interesting match nonetheless.

Kpro, they both load up punches. The difference is that Kim throws one or two hooks at a time in a brawler manner, Woodley throws combos with several different punches. Woodley has the better striking, whether that can last the entire fight or not is another question.
