Now that Chris Lytle has retired, Matt Mitrione has become the meal ticket for what IMO is one of the most underrated and overlooked camps in MMA: Integrated Fighting Academy in Indianapolis.

Don't know if this is an omen or not, but "Check Kongo" ran in the 10th race at Los Alamitos last Friday night. The horse finished fourth in a field of six.

Matt has a chin and the last few Kongo fights he hasn't. Pat Barry just got too crazy, but Matt has the gas and precision to finish this fight in the 1st or 2nd guaranteed.

And after this I'd love to see Mitrione/Struve or Mitrione/Browne...as a Meathead fan I'm a little scared for the latter.

I love MMAFighting.com, but that Michael David Smith guy they have writing over there is clueless.

He thinks Mitrione is going to with this fight with takedowns.

He also said Brian Stann was going to layNpray Chris Leben, because "Leben has trouble with dominant wrestlers."

It's a great website overall. Why this guy is their lead blogger is beyond me.

I struggled with this choice. Almost too close to call, but I'll take athleticism over Kongo's experience (and probably better wrestling). Mitrione is also a lot younger in fighting years than the actual 3 year age difference.

I wasn't a fan of Mitrione at first, but have become to enjoy watching him improve fight after fight. I think if he beats Kongo, they'll wanna push him towards a contender match, maybe against Travis Browne or someone else similar. Side note: Kongo looked enormous at the weigh ins.
