Grant has looked amazing in his last few fights, Maynard hasn't...and Grant has an overall grappling advantage IMO.

Maynard has new life and it starts here. With a new champ, Maynard gets to take a last run at the belt. There would be no rematch with him an Edgar (maybe a few years from now when they are both just fighting) so he can make one last run. Grant is a guy on the come right now and Maynard would be a huge stepping stone for him.

I think if I was picking today, I like Grant in this fight. This fight ends in a decision either way.

I agree. It's Maynard's chance to get a last run at the gold. His 'new life' didn't start too simple with Grant, though.

maynard will need to mix it up to win this fight. gray can take TJ down any time he wants and he will....repeatedly. TJ has a niice guard but gray's jits is only getting better training with nova uniao. i dont expect maynard to shy away from utilizing his top control as he did against diaz.


TJ need to win this fight in the clinch and avoid being taken down by gray. if tj finds himself fighting off his back he needs to stay active with strikes and sub attempts.

Maynard has slick boxing, and great wrestling, but Grant has some momentum and some aggressiveness that he brings to the cage. I was impressed the way he put down the veteran Matt Wiman. I'm going with Grant by 2nd rd TKO.

This is gotta be one of the least hyped up #1 contender fights in recent history. Maybe that's because this fight is buried under a bunch of more hyped fights, but you'd still think that a #1 contender fight in one of the UFC's most competitive divisions would get more love. Gray Maynard by decision is one of the easiest picks to make in MMA, (9 decisions out of his 11 wins and lord knows when his last stoppage was). I like Grant, but he's not ready to be a contender just yet.

Picking Gray because he does have a wrestling advantage but lately has fallen in love with his hands which imo is not a good gameplan against Grant who I think will overwhelm him if it stays standing, Gray should win a decision here if he fights a smart fight

I watched Maynard interview on sherdog... Theres something wrong with him, He couldn't finish a sentence without pausing in the middle of them.... Seemed really wierd to me, Dunno if hes always been like that or if he's just really drawn out from weigh cut and oxygen isn't adequately getting to his brain.
