What would you say the most painful submission is? I've never experienced it but, once I put my friend into a kneebar and he was limping the rest of the day. So i'm going to go with that one. Thoughts?

Sub due to strikes........................................................ Just Kidding!

Whatever sub that was that Aoki put on .. gosh I forgot his name.. it is early.. broke his arm, flipped him off?  That looked very painful.  Any sub you're too proud to tap to has got to end up being pretty damn painful.

In my experience, blood chokes are not painful if the technique is good. Neck cranks, spinal locks, heel hooks, compression subs, are all painful from the outset.

Been armbarred, RNC'd, Guillotined while doing combatives, but a kimura from the bottom was the most painful sub I've personally experienced. I thought my arm was going to pop right off at the shoulder and I screamed like a beeeyatch.

I'd have to say N-S choke is one , it feels like your head is going to pop off at first then you tap or go to sleep.

Man I've been put in almost all of these holds.  A lot of them suck really bad.  You can of couse add omoplata to the list.  For my money, though, the heel hook it is.  As Jeremy pointed out, the damage is done by the time the pain begins.  The first time I was put in one was by my jiu-jitsu trainer.  We were sparring, and he caught me.  I tried to roll, and he cinched it in.  There was a pop and only after I tried to stand did the pain start.  Limped for a couple of weeks and took a long time to get full flexibility back in that leg.  We actually banned that and other leglocks from all the trainees until such time as my trainers and myself could evaluate their readiness.

The most painful submission I've ever been in has to be the bicep or calf slicer easily!

@soccerkick both the bicep or calf slicer suck and if you don't tap soon u risk jacking up your arm or leg for good. the one that really sucks for me is the twister. i have been choked out and it sucks but i would take that over the twister or the calf and bicep slicer.

@thiago I'll see if I can explain it really...Its when you'd be defending the armbar their arm is through your elbom and then they transition their heel on top of your wrist then push downward...its a compression hold and is actually illegal in competitions until the purple belt level at the earliest...

agreed @soccer, i called it an "arm crusher" but bicep crusher, bicep slicer, they all refer to the same sub and it's terrible to be in.  twister is another i forgot, good call @thiago

The class I was taking that they showed us I was rolling with my gf when the instructor showed her the bicep slicer...I learned real quick if a small woman can make that hold hurt like it did I don't want to be anywhere near someone my size doing it!
