After his performance tonight, is he top 15 PFP? Or is Flyweight simply too thin to move him into that discussion? I thought Ortiz was a game opponenet and has potential but was completely outclassed.

IMO Flyweight is too thin and untested at the moment

I have to agree w/ Live2. Too much proven talent in the other weight classes. He needs those fights the announcers were talking about. When he was in the WEC, he wasn't real successful.

@Kalibo I agree, although Valencia and Cruz are no pushovers, especially since they are much bigger. It just seems that after taking out two undefeated fighters at his weight class, including the #1, he may deserve some top 20 consideration.

Add on: Until Benavidez and Mighty Mouse move down when the UFC adds 125ers.

Not yet for P4P... keep in mind this is still Tachi Palace Fights we're talking about here. And in my view with guys like Demetrius Johnson and Joseph Benavidez easily capable of getting to 125.... we just don't know who at that weight class is the best right now.

@Gregory, I realize it's Tachi, but there isn't anyone else in the U.S. putting on fights in this weight class and they seem to be pulling in some of the top talent at 125. I'm sure you weren't discounting the WEC FW's and BW's before the UFC brought them in. Given more thought though, I'm in agreement with you all in that the division is still too young, too murkey, to say for sure who the best is. Obviously guys like Benavidez and Johnson aren't going to give up their Zuffa checks to find out if they're the best in their natural weight class. I'm just of the opinion that if you are the best in your weight class, you deserve PFP consideration.

True, no other orgs outside of Japan are doing anything with 125 lbs. But before tonight, who was really thinking about Dustin Ortiz in terms of mainstream MMA? McCall's win was awesome and impressive, but it was over someone most of us have never even heard of.
And then prior to this McCall was cut from the world's premier 135 lb division. There's not a big difference between 135 and 125. A lot of those WEC bantamweights could make 125... probably more than we have even been discussing.
So it's just way too early for me to consider him anywhere on the P4P list.

As much as I like him, I don't think so. He's easily the best flyweight, but the division is very shallow and weak. When UFC gets a flyweight division (and they will) we'll see some BW's drop, that's when they can enter the p4p discussion.

Not while he's fighting in Tachi. If they get some serious competition then maybe he will move up. But Tachi is still not a major MMA organization.
