The UFC has been pretty trigger happy in releasing HW. Todd Duffee and Gabriel Gonzaga were both released for very little. Before the UFC realized the mistake they had made and resigned them.

That made no difference, Duffee doesn't even deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as Overeem. Give Overeem 2 days to train and Duffee 2 months ... same outcome.

I don't think anyone is saying Duffee would have had a chance with more prep time, I'm just saying Duffee's performance vs Overeem shouldn't reflect too much on his overall ability because he was basically sent in there to be a punching bag.
