Still haven't made a pick. I get the feeling that either way, one guy is going to embarrass the other. Either Struve is going to get laid out in brutal fashion, or Johnson is going to look clueless on the ground.

I think maybe we're underrating Struve's chin? Some of the shots that have knocked him out would knock a lot of HW fighters out.

I still think it's going to come down to whether or not Struve decides that standing with this guy is a good idea.

I'm going out on a limb here but since struve blocks punches with his face, lavar by KO.

Struve keeps the distance like in the Barry fight and baits Johnson into a lethal triangle choke.

The key here is whether or not Struve can get the fight on the ground. If he does, he wins (Johnson has a terrible ground game). If Johnson keeps the fight standing, Struve's screwed (he already has been KOed quickly by multiple people and Johnson has a ton of power in his punches).

Johnson should be able to connect and drop Struve before it gets to the ground. This could go either way though, but I like Lavar's momentum coming into this fight.

So get this: the UFC remeasured @stefanstruve today, & he's now 6"11.5 with an 84.5" reach, tying Jones for the longest reach in UFC history

I took Lavar over Barry but not here, even though it's a coinflip.

He's already only getting a half camp as a fill-in for Hunt.  He trains at AKA San Jose who had a ton of guys to prepare this weekend.   His wrestling coach is Daniel Cormier who obviously was preparing for Barnett, not coaching.  I can guarantee the top AKA trainers were working with Cormier & Cain waaaaaaaay more than Lavar and Kingsbury in preparation for this weekend.  Not that any backstories matter.  Most likely if it stays vertical Lavar wins, it hits the mat Struve wins.  Who knows how a half camp and not having your normal trainer's attention will impact his performance if at all.

@stancher00

I read your comment, "stefan knows his triangles." and then looked at your avatar and I see Chael Sonnen. Sorry, but I laughed out loud.

If Johnson lands a bomb he wins. If Struve grabs a limb he wins. Wouldn't be surprised at any outcome but Struve is just the better MMA fighter and I think he's more likely to implement his gameplan. Not to mention Johnson hasn't had much time to train since his last win over a totally different style of opponent.

This is really tough to pick. I can't get over the fact that Barry took Johnson down, but I keep thinking of all the trouble Morecraft had Struve in in the 1st round, and Struve doesn't seem to have much of a chin. I picking Big Johnson because it the outcome I think would be the most fun.

People that think Struve has a glass chin don't know what the **** you're talking about. He's gotten KO'd by the best HW's...other than that though he has shown a good chin and being able to take punishment and come back to win, so he actually has a pretty good chin. Anyone would get KO'd by those shots from JDS/Browne...that being said Johnson probably will KO Stefan if he catches him. However Johnson got taken down and almost subbed by Pat...I think Struve takes him down and GNP's him from mount...or sub.

this fight is such a toss up but I picked Lavar when he fought Barry and he won me 2nd place in the Wagering game so I put my fate in him again.

I have the exact same thoughts @Swickotine.   I also think he'll finish by mounted TKO.  Not a very common pick though.   Assuming it hits the mat, Struve will have mount in seconds and he's shown in the past when facing a better striker that he's not willing to go for an armbar or arm-triangle, etc.  He doesn't want to lose position if it doesn't work so he drops bombs and bows.  Now if he can just get it there......

If Struve jumps on Lavar and pulls guard, he'll win.
