In order to qualify for a rematch, Shogun needs to defeat a top name, like Lyototo Machida, Rashad Evans, Rampage Jackson or Dan Henderson.
The UFC has lots of very excellent fighters. But to earn a title shot, you need to defeat the upper echelon, the top tier guys. It will no longer be enough to beat Forrest Griffin, Stephan Bonnar, Tito Ortiz, Phil Davis, Little Nog, Rich Franklin, Vladimir Matyushenko or Ryan Bader. The top end keeps getting qualitively tougher and tougher.
Thiago Silva will not help Shogun build his case.

I like Thiago alot, dude is intense as they come...that being said, I think although Shogun is extremely overrated by a lot of people for some reason, he still takes it.
