I just agree with minotauro 100% on the part about defending takedowns not counting for enough points.  Diego wanted that fight on the ground the entire fight, but Martin wanted the fight standing the entire fight.  And for just under 15 minutes, Martin kept the fight standing.  Defending 14 of 15 takedowns and 7 of 7 in the second round should be scoring him points.  It's like they give Diego points for trying.

I just feel bad for Kampmann because I feel like he's getting robbed against bigger names.  Shields would beat Kampmann in a rematch, but I think Kampmann should have won their fight as well.  I think they gave the fight to Shields because they know the loss was most likely due to his big weight cut and they also signed Shields with the intention of having him fight GSP so they weren't going to let a close decision with Kampmann derail that plan.

I dunno I'm just thinking up crazy conspiracy crap now..

The UFC has nothing to do with the judges, but I agree about Kampmann winning the first Shields fight as well. That one was very close, though.

Yeah that's true about the judges..  I just think Kampmann's catching some ****** lucky right now.  I mean Sanchez's face was beyond worthy of a stoppage.  There was no chance he'd be allowed to fight championship rounds.  I know damage isn't everything, but it shows that Kampmann was landing hard and often.  Seeing as he outstruck Sanchez while keeping the fight standing as Sanchez desperately tried to get it to the ground, I just don't see how he could have lost.  I shouldn't be surprised by this kind of judging at this point, but it still bothers me.

judging is a bit messed up. stuffing TD's seemed to be scored as a stalemate, while SUB attempts seem to score, despite being stuffed. almost saw another draw here boys, round 2 was very close.

i think kampmann won the 1st and 3rd for sure maybe even the 2nd. all diego did was shield punches with his FACE and fail at finishing takedown.... its sucks kampman get robbed for the 2nd time

diego used the rampage strategy which is move forward. this one was even a clearer observation as diego was left a bloody mess. if i recall correctly, one of his eyes was closed.

I enjoed the fight a lot and thought it was a really close fight I was a little surprised by the UD,  but not with who won I wouldn't have been surprised if it went the other way either though...was an awesome fight to me!

I think the major factor in this fight was the crowd. I'm not sure how judges are effected by the crowd, but when they are going nuts because Diego was throwing flurry's in rounds 2 & 3 i think it might have swayed the judges thoughts. If anything i had Kampman winning by split decision based on what i thought the judges would see. My personal scoring was Kampmann 29-28

@bklettke thats interesting, because I based my scoring on what I thought the judges would see and thought 29-28 Diego...I think the 2nd was really close and judges seem to give TD a huge value regardless of what is done with it and the 3rd Diego was winning a lot of the exchanges and once Kampmann broke his hand it was over for him not enough time left for it to numb up and allow him to throw it with full force

I'm going to rewatch it tonight, but round 1 was obviously Kampmann. Round two i gave to Diego because he busted Martin up and buckled his knee's twice. Round three i remember Diego trying to throw alot of those flurry's, but Martin was circling away from the cage and did his best not to get stuck there. I thought Martin won round three by landing more crisp shots even with his broken hand and avoiding the flurry's.

It brings up the large discussion i missed on here about scoring fights. If you score the fight as a whole and not round by round, Kampmann wins that fight easily.

Thats true, but the system we have is based per round...its like the BCS in college football it might not be right, but its what we play by!

This was a great event for my percentage, it could have been even better if the judges got the decision right in the Kampmann fight. I missed that fight and Brown vs Pokrajac.
