He also tweeted that Mir/Cain is still on, and you can still see that on his Twitter.
Who could the chosen opponent be?
Hunt, Hendo, and a Werdum rematch are the only viable options off the top of my head. No, they would not ruin any upcoming Zuffa cards by having Jones, Barnett, or Cormier fill in. Possible signing of Fedor or Brock could work, but it's much to last minute and the current relationships (Zuffa/Fedor and Brock/WWE) wouldn't let that work out.

Hendo...maybe, but I doubt it. It will be a heavyweight.
Dana basically already said it won't be Mir or Cain.
I don't think it will be Cormier or Barnett. Strikeforce and Showtime seem to want to salvage that tournament.
I don't think it will be Werdum, since he already has a KO loss to JDS, and I get the impression the UFC doesn't like him much.
If I'm right about all that, it basically means either things with Alistair have worked out after all, or Dana is going to give in to the Mark Hunt twitter bomb.

Fedor: 1/10
Jones: -9000/10
Barnett: 2/10
There is NO WAY Jones goes against JDS, NO WAY.

the ufc doesn't even want jones going to heavyweight for another couple of years, they're certainly not gonna let him fight for the title anytime soon...
they can make much more money off of him by having him beat every lhw out there for the next 2 yrs and then if his body matures to the point he needs to go up, then they can make more money off of him by having him go thru the heavyweight division to earn a title shot

Personally I think Dan Henderson should get the shot. He is one of the biggest names amoung the diehard MMA fans, he doesn't have a match really even close to set up at LHW at the moment, he has fought HW before and Dana knows that Win Lose or Draw Hendo is going to make that a war! However I could understand why they wouldn't want to put him in the fight. Because he is one of the top LHW contenders, he hasn't really earned a shot at the belt and what happens if we wins? (Wish I think he would have a very strong chance of doing) Then the UFC has a LHW fighter as the top guy in the HW division and that could potnetially put them in a weird spot.
Mark Hunt is a has looked very impressive in his last few fights but his record is ****, and he hasn't really beat any top 10 HWs but at the same time he would make it a war of a fight as well.
Fabricio Werdum in my opinion is the most well rounded HW in the UFC right now, now that he has added some (from the look of it) very serious striking he will be a problem for almost every fighter they match him against. But having onely one fight under his belt on his current UFC stint could be a problem and comming over to the UFC after a loss could be an even bigger problem.
But I mentioned this in anouther thread but we don't even for sure know that Allistair is out of the fight, there has been no concrete announcement and until there is I don't think we can rule him out entirely.
