Initially I thought this might be a good dog spot with Kirk at +170. After reviewing tape all my old reservations about Kirk came back to the surface. I think he's very technically sound and he does things "correctly by the book". The problem is he is just an NPC in the octagon. He's just there to test the opponent a little bit before being beat so that they can be challenged just enough to feel great about the win.
I never see him go for anything against good opposition, he'll passively sit back and throw some feeler shots out there. The most impact he delivers is with knees to the midsection if an opponent walks into him. The danger there is that his takedown defense isn't very good so it leaves him exposed at the same time although he does have pretty good balance on his feet. I think his style of fighting might have to do with him having a pretty bad cardio that we've seen fail already in round 2 on a number of occasions. Typically unless the opponent also gasses bad Kirk vill lose if it goes much past the 1st round.
There are some excuses to be made, apparently he had a rib injury on contender series and his UFC debut against Makwan was on 3 weeks notice from when he last fought in the LFA. Still he just seems to fade pretty bad and he seems to take adversity pretty bad. He basically gave up on contender series and he's talked in interviews about how he had second thoughts about his career as a fighter around that time. As good as Fight Ready is, and I rate them one of the best gyms out there, I have to wonder if he needs someone to light a fire under his ass a bit, especially in the training. Maybe he needs that drill sergeant I'm not sure, but something has to change with his approach if he wants to have success. Every time I heard Brandon talk about Kamuela on the podcast with Santino it's about them being out partying in Las Vegas.
Ribovic is inexperienced having mostly fought on the Argentinian regionals. I really like what I've seen off him though. He is pretty much the opposite to Kirk when it comes to going for it. He will start fast and aggressively and he hung in there vs Loik in his UFC debut despite getting taken down a ton. He never stopped moving from the bottom and scrambled to get up again and again and didn't seem mentally affected at all either from getting wrestled or from eating bombs, trading right back with his own and hurting Loik at times and stealing the second round with it.
I think Kamuela might be sligthly more technically skilled but I don't know that he could have survived against Loik in that spot. I like Ribovic here, not at these odds but enough to fade Kirk that has to show me something new before I'd be willing to bet him against a hungry and tough guy with good cardio in Ribovic.

i think chairez is going to look good for maybe half or 2/3rds of the 1st round then fall off a cliff as taira gets a takedown and advances to a dominant position. if chairez somehow survives r1 then r2 is going to be tragic because his lungs will be begging for air
overall though, chairez has what it takes to be in the ufc and I could see him racking up a couple of wins in the future against worse guys than taira and in matchups that favor him stylistically. let's not forget that this is the guy who gave clayton carpenter, a prospect who i value very highly, a lot of trouble in their dwcs fight - sadly this just happens to be a very ****** stylistic matchup for him and on a very short notice call
