Blaydes being "a better technical striker" than Pavlovich is probably the most bizarre statement ill read for this entire card. I get in general what you're trying to say but not sure how I'd word it differently.

I dont know that I'd call shooting directly into an uppercut very technical when your entire style is based around using your striking to set up takedowns, especially when you already failed 3 takedowns prior. I think Curtis Blaydes striking is very, very basic. I guess its "technical" but extremley limited.

Comparing striking statistics for these two guys is comparing apples and oranges.

Just saying if takedowns wasn't allowed, Blaydes has a good shot of winning still.

I mean I'll give him a shot cause it's a fight and anything can happen but idk about calling it a "good shot".

If I'm being honest I dont like a lot of guys chances against a power puncher with an 84' reach. He really is white Ngannou.

Are you really gonna use one mistake he made after piecing up Derek? It was an amazing shot by Derek, I don't think people give him enough credit for his timing on that.

I'm not sold on Pavlovich, he's had an easy time of it imo. He clearly has a lot of power and so he'll be dangerous for everyone he faces but what happens if he doesn't starch his opponent in the first round?
I've watched his fights from 6-7 years ago on the russian regionals that went to a decision. Basically nothing happened in those fights, both fighters stood on the outside and very cautiously traded shots and Pavlovich got the sligthly better of it and won the decision. He wasn't pushed whatsoever.
Since then it's all first round finishes. Now he's going 5 rounds against an elite fighter in the UFC. So we'll see, maybe he's as good as people think, we'll find out tomorrow if it goes past the first round.

Of course I am. If he was "piecing Derrick up" why did he shoot a 4th takedown and walk right into an uppercut?

Curtis Blaydes does not get hit a lot. His SaPm is actually well, well below the average for most fighters. But when he gets hit, he drops like a ton of bricks.

Yes, that's against some of the hardest punchers on the planet but thats who he's fighting this weekend.

Idk how one could be confident in either side. This is blaydes gets nuked in < 60 seconds or blaydes takes him down & smashes him

Yeah it's a volatile fight, but if you believe Pavlovich needs to get a knockdown in the first few minutes to win in a 25 minute fight, then even with a power puncher in HW you gotta lean Blaydes.
Now it's different if you think Pavlovich can win a decision for example, that would make him the a-side with the power advantage of being the more likely guy to get a flash KO.

I have no bets on it and wont catch it live so it's all academic for me.

Pav doesn’t only have power for a min. It all depends on if Blaydes can take him down, if he can’t I don’t see him going 25 mins without getting Ko’d

******* mmajunkie garbage stream, audio glitch just as they're reading Pavlovich weight. Looks like he bulked 10 lbs for this one? I'd guess he hit the limit rather than his usual 255.

You say that but he's never gotten a KO past the first 4 minutes of a fight and again his decision wins are the most pedestrian fights you'll ever find of HWs on youtube.
So we really have no idea if he carries power later in fights or not.

I also disagree that pavlovich is one of the hardest hitting HWs. He has power no doubt but the reason he’s finishing everyone is because he’s fast, has a crazy long reach, and throws straight punches. It’s the overwhelming volume & large reach that nobody can deal with.

I mean you're kind of just describing why his power shots land as opposed to making a strong argument that he doesn't actually hit hard, but I get your point.

And your point is exactly why I'm picking him over Blaydes. I don't think Curtis is going to handle the reach or speed well at all.

I'm like 80% confident here. I could absolutely see Pavlovich losing the first round via control after getting taken down once or twice and spending the round getting back up. I will be kind of surprised (but not totally shocked) if this ends in the first round because I think both guys are going to respect each others skills quite a bit.

I think the first 2-3 minutes of round 2 is probably going to be the most interesting and probably when the fight ends, regardless of who wins. If this fight hits a 3rd round I will **** a brick.
