It was unusual, I think Daley denied he was in this bout at first, saying he was under contract with Strikeforce. And now the bout is official. I guess Coker said what the heck, fight at your own risk of losing the title shot.

Coker said if Daley loses, he doesn't get the title shot, which would suck for him. I wonder why he would take this fight, guess he wants to fight in England?

I can't remember ever watching Yuya Shirai fight. Does he have any chance against Daley?

If Paul Daley loses which I doubt he will I wonder who would get the next title shot? They really don't have that deep a division. Tyrone Woodley would be their only other real choice I would think. They could have Melendez move up or just throw someone with a big looking record coming off a win like Bobby Voelker and let Nick smash him. They have like less than 15 people actively fighting in their entire division.

Melendez is Cesar Gracie, so that won't happen. It would have to be Woodley, who will dominate Diaz with ease.

Oh yeah I forgot about Meledez being a Cesar Gracie guy. I just remembered him talking about moving up because he cleared out his division and there is no one for him to fight. But that would seem kind of pointless since he wouldn't fight the champion. He would just be in there knocking off contenders.

I wouldn't go as far as saying Woodley would dominate Diaz with ease, but I might pick him to win that fight. Not sure.

@greg, yeah i guess dominate him easily is an exaggeration, but I think he would win thoroughly. I am biased, tbh, but in all honesty I don't see Diaz doing anything to Woodley, Diaz has somewhat poor takedown defense and not much KO power, and Woodley has good enough BJJ to avoid a sub, and good enough wrestling to put Diaz on his back repeatedly. So I think he would win a one sided decision, but I was exaggerating when I said he would dominate him easily.

Daley should win this fight by KO 1ST rd. Man, if he loses it wouldn't hurt him too much because Strikeforce doesn't have a stacked welterweight division like UFC DOES.

Quick payday for Daley, then he fights for the title, then maybe Woodley up next.
