I would love to see Shogun retire with a win here, but it is what it is. Shogun was one of the first fighters I've watched and instantly loved his style.

Rua's legacy is undeniable, Pride Shogun was something almost unrepeatable: A fighter with an aggressive style that fit perfectly into those allowed by the Japanese promotion's regulations (just like Pride Wanderlei). Shogun had better chances to retire: after his surgeries and period of inactivity after beating Gian Villante, after the KO loss against Anthony Smith returning from the period of inactivity after the fight with Gian Villante, he was also able to retire then closes the trilogy with Little Nog.

He hasn’t shown much promise to me. His best win (sudolski) just got finished by a can crusher. If he can beat a young fighter with a pulse then I’ll reconsider my opinion. He’s shown me nothing to think he’s good. Sloppy defense, awful tdd, wilts under pressure, no gas tank.
