I've seen that best fight odds never posted the chimaev vs diaz fight, I thought it was because the odds for khamzat were too low or something. I don't believe the UFC would communicate to the wolrd that Nate vs Khamzat is on and behind the stage to the bookies "this is not gonna happen, don't put the line or you'll have to give all this money back".
This whole mess is raising some interesting question though.
1- How a hype train can derail. I mean, Nate can be as stupid as he wants, his hype has been built on so many years and moments and fights that it won't be one single thing that will break his image (unless it's some evil stuff like pedophelia or something). Khamzat became a big star on an fragile image, and now, especially with his reactions, it feels like his hype can turn against him to some extent.
2- Still, what is the % of people loving the Leech more than Khamzat? Yet, Li was happy with his suit to do a press conference, waving at the journalists, smiling during weigh in, probably had no influence whatsoever on all the fight shifts... It makes him so lovable to me, but I feel i'm in the minority here, but how come?
3- How important is the hype build up for an event? If Tony vs Nate and Khamzat vs Holland were announced from the start it would clearly feel different right now. Just contemplating this idea feels weird.
