I'm out here like a UFC shill but have any of you considered how much it costs to put on an event? Obviously the fighters get paid, but you need to pay staff, the commentators, all the production crew, the tradies, the travel, the roadies and then you have to pay the commission (which is likely an absurd amount), a bunch of utilities, the actual arena, the ticket place already taking a cut, there's likely certain taxes on top of what you're already paying the commission, then there's marketing and all the other affinity corporate **** than goes along side it. There's probably a bunch off stuff we wouldn't even consider.

I'm sure you can cut a bunch of those costs operating out of the APEX but a lot of that doesn't go away even then and APEX doesn't hold that many people so they're basically relying on their broadcast deals to turn a profit out of the APEX.

I've go no real idea but I imagine the individual events in isolation operate on a pretty tight margin - PPV a little bit different but that's genuinely where the UFC makes it money because they'd be making **** all without it. They could be in big trouble if PPV numbers don't pick up and ESPN decides to not renew the broadcast deal, I imagine all other broadcast deals pale in comparison to ESPN. And that's why you get Lucie and Wu on the main card to keep ESPN's corporate socially conscious investment banker interests happy.

they pay their fighters like 17-18% of the total revenue, if they can't find a way to squeeze a few more %'s the fighters way, well then they're just going to have a lot more Shane Burgos situations coming up. maybe we finally see another organization really threaten the UFC's #1 spot.

@Daebak I wonder if they actually filter out illegal streams from the total PPV #. I bet they don't.

the UFC makes 7 million dollars per 100k PPV buys so they do make tons of money on PPV, I don’t know the over head, but they’re clearly underpaying they fighter.also not to mention, PPV isn’t the only ufc sorce of revanue

And for the people wanting to know my math, it’s 100k X $70= 7 million dollars

@Damien Yea, but you do have to account for non-fighting employees and other necessary expenses, and I'm not sure how PPVs get taxed, but I'm sure they lose at least $500,000 in states like New York that have high tax rates. A 20% tax for 7 million is 1.4 million, so it is really 5.6 million if they make 7 million in PPVs for states that have higher tax rates.

Also, I'm pretty sure that a good amount of the PPV points get distributed to the fighters, so saying that 25% of the revenue from the UFC is kind of relative b/c yes, they make way more than the fighters from other revenue streams, but the actual event revenue seems like it actually is distributed to the fighters fairly based off how they sell the event, and it just seems like a smaller amount b/c they aren't making $20-30 million per fight

It sucks when the MMA Media at BKFC asks better questions than the dipthongs at the UFC events.

@crimsonchin 100%, the people at the ufc press conference ask some really stupid questions sometimes. It’s embarrassing, you got Mr. Can’t do 10 push-ups John Morgan coming out first every time with the most dry questions I’ve ever heard

As easy as it is to clown on Luke I do admire him for taking this fight and being as confident as he is against the man who is the hardest fight in the division for him stylistically. Luke ain’t no *****, but then again it’s his words that makes him so easy to roast the **** out of

I wouldn't be surprised at all if Rockhold wins this fight, I don't rate Costa very highly. Of course it's impossible to favor the chinny delusional fighter on a 3 year layoff but still.
Neither guy can really afford to lose either, which makes it an exciting watch for me.
