Prediction Comments

Predictions: 9 of 14 Winners, 2 Perfect, 585 Points   |   Tied for 1329th

Oliveira vs. Poirier
Charles Oliveira, SUB, R4
Banger of a fight. Bias put aside, I still think Oliveira should be able to get this done with the takedowns. The double leg is viable, and it's been shown in the past. I'm gonna say guillotine choke in a good fight.

Kara-France vs. Garbrandt
Kai Kara-France, TKO, R3
I think Rob laid a blueprint to beating Cody. Back at 135, the chin wasn't as much of an issue as Cody's recklessness was, and although he's seemingly addressed that, the additional 10-pound cut creates some questions. Now with all that damage taken, I think Kai plants a straight right on his chin with his newfound KO power and finishes him off in a war.

O'Malley vs. Paiva
Sean O'Malley, DEC
Want Paiva to take this dub but Sean is too damn good. Paiva builds into fights, whereas Sean controls from the get-go. Expect lots of variance of rhythm and a striking masterclass. Maybe if Paiva's having a great day he'll amount to some ground control but nothing too significant.

Emmett vs. Ige
Josh Emmett, DEC
Truthfully I'm very iffy on this pick. If Emmett was healthy and at his best, I'd pick him with a little more confidence, but after the damage to his knee, I've no idea what he'll look like; especially when his style is very reliant on power and planting his feet. We shall see.

Perez vs. Schnell
Alex Perez, TKO, R2
Schnell should not win this. I'll be pleasantly surprised if he does.

@chrispm The Cub swanson loss was super weird too, it either looked like Charles had an orbital injury or it was a delayed KO like we saw with Burgos. I think Dustin is gonna box him up nicely

I think people gotta realize that fighters change. I literally was saying these exact same things about him quitting when he fought chandler. He’s clearly not that same person just because Dustin is a good boxer does not mean he’s going to make Charles quit. Everyone has questionable losses on their record; Dustin went to the shadow realm against MJ

Chandler is the only top guy he's fought in 4 years. Give or take Ferguson because he got destroyed by Gaethje. The people Charles lost to , Dustin embarrassed.

Also , his output is very minimal.. avg 30 punches a fight with 2.5 takedowns. Dustin will push the pace and Charles will be finished against the cage.

He also absorbs as much as he puts out.

Smolka is dumb for standing with him and got bombed on. Left his guard down the whole fight.

but yes, if that first round was going on longer it would have been chandler with the belt. But, it didn't go on longer so there no point on dwelling on it. The rules of mma aren't going to change if Charles gets hurt in the last 30 seconds of this fight too

Dustin getting KO'd is different, everyone loses but Chucky Olives has 3-4 fights where it looks like he gave up. Fighters absolutely "quit", maybe it's not something people wanna admit about someone they cheer for, but it's true. You can see it in the way some fighters tap, Blachowicz is a recent example, he wanted out of the Glover fight and did not hesitate to tap. Other guys would rather break an arm or leg in a fight and try to hide it.

Dustin went to sleep against TKZ and barely got to tap against Khabib. Charles always looks like he's spamming the tap button when he loses. He may have "changed" but the Chandler fight is the only time we've seen him push through a bad spot. I think it's too early to say Oliveira is this new, invincible man because he didn't give up once for a change. His track record is still highly questionable, I'm still not totally sold on his heart yet.

maybe he gave up because he didn't want to take unnecessary damage? Theres a reason hes been in the ufc for song, maybe its because he didn't want to take any more punishment and live to fight another day. The cub and the felder losses were silly ill admit, but do you really blame him against Holloway? he had an esophageal tear, he could have died

also did you see how much it meant to Olivier to win that title? do you really think hes gonna just give up everything he worked for because dustin punches hard? Its so rare to see a champ just throw away their belt, I know we saw it was jan but he did say he wasn't himself that night so im inclined to believe he was dealing with some personal stuff

im not just saying this to prove a point btw, I just dont want people to make the same mistake I did. Yes, we have a small sample size of one fight, but a title fight is vastly different than losing a match when you are unranked. There are much heavier implications and this title means everything to him; I think hes gonna go out on his shield

OK so if he's taking damage in a fight with Poirier (not unlikely), will he elect to tap out and fight another day? If you say yes, then I think we agree. I'm more talking about the Pettis/Lamas losses where he spams to tap out of a guillotine. Certain guys just don't tap like that, it's a last resort. Who knows, maybe we'll see Dustin go for his neck.

yeah but I think its highly unlikely we see him tap. As I said, everyone has questionable losses; just because he got tapped out doesn't mean dustin can or will tap him out. Also those losses are at FW; Charles was dog**** at FW as it was not his weight class. Those losses were also 5 years ago, its crazy to assume Charles hasn't evolved as a fighter so I doubt he ends up in those compromising positions.

and yeah it was a last resort but sometimes chokes get sunk in. You really think fluffy Hernandez is actually good enough to sub Vieira normally? no, **** happens its mma. I dont think its fair to hold something Charles did 5 years ago in a different weight class against him. as I said, everyone has questionable losses, beniel got tapped by brown belt chiesa lol
