lol I assure you this thing we're in is a lot more complicated than the Fed  attempting to short the market and that's not what it's doing or ever will do. Bears are getting left holding their ****s in their hands; their puts aren't going to print because the Fed has just decided to play the unlimited monopoly money QE card, and they didn't bet on it doing that. The guys making those bets are the rich ****s you're talking about BTW free. 
Stocks are based on underlying values, notably cash flow/debt serviceability/ credit risk. It's not even complicated. A company is worth its total stock price.

It makes absolutely no sense that the Fed, a bonds-issuer, would hyperinflate COVID-19 as crisis to cause stock market crashes, especially as an issuer of bonds, because that would mean it is willfully trying to **** itself at both ends; it creates a situation whereby its holders run a very high risk of default, dramatically reduces those same holders' ability to take on more debt or to service their debt because nobody is buying or doing anything. Money has to come from somewhere.Here's the thing; if people who spend money are ******, then corporations who tender stocks are ******, and then the fed is ****** because it has to mitigate an economic ****show through QE, which means they have to **** with interest rates and beyond this basically means it gets left holding the bag when the music stops. 


Ok, Imagine I lend you fifty bucks, and the deal is, you have to pay me back 100 in a year. You're a lettuce farmer. So I lend you fifty bucks, and then I sabotage your production at every step of the way. I sneak in and night and smash baby lettuce. I set fire the barn. I pay someone to steal the tractor and drive it into the river. Whatever. Basically, I create conditions which make it impossible for you to pay me back credit on the principle. But I don't just do all that. I also fund an expensive campaign which is directed at convincing people lettuce causes cancer, so the market for lettuce dries up, meaning no bank or credit issuer will allow you to take on more debt, meaning there is effectively no way that you can ever pay me back the principle let alone the credit.

Why the **** would I do that? Why would the Fed? What--so high frequency traders get to spam puts on overvalued stock by betting on companies to fail? Ridiculous. And if you need more proof that this isn't happening, again bears are getting ass****d right now because the Fed is buying corporate debt hand-over-fist. A lot of smarmy ****s on wall street are going to be crying into their ex-trophy wives' panties over the next few weeks.

@phil I'm not trying to defend the Fed. The fact it's a necessary evil doesn't change the fact it's evil. Bank runs aren't possible in 2020, there will never be another 1930's type deal.

Also the Fed is a bank at the end of all things. It's not a vulture capitalist enterprise in the sense you are thinking and it's not in the game of liquidation.

The idea that the fed is deliberately creating a COVID-19 panic is nonsensical. As far as ideas go It's a bit like the special Olympics; even if you win, you're still ********.
