The old argument that was put to rest. This argument was put to rest by the Gracies as far as I know. Now conventinal wisdom says that a grappler would just take a striker down and submit or ground & pound him. This isn't wrong but the more you think about it the more you realize that Gracie Jiu Jitsu and most modern Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has striking in it.

Old footage of the Gracies showed they had very basic striking skills standing up used to set up for the takedown. They also had the ability to strike on the ground as well. My point is they were aware of the dangers of a striker. So would you really count that as a 100% grappling style/art? I believe that to be a hybrid art.

The equivalent to Gracie Jiu Jitsu could possibly be Pankration which would've been an entertaining stylistic match up. Unfortunately we never got to see it.

However with all that being said I would like to see a

Pure Grappler v.s Pure Striker

both unaware of eachothers elements. Which one wins?

This is likely a video of a pure grappling practitioner in a street altercation unaware of the many variables, posibilities or dangers of a street
