Boxing has thicker padding for gloves. Also, Boxing was notorious for fixed fights during the time LaMotta fought since the Italian Mafia had a stranglehold on the promotion of that sport, and LaMotta was managed by the mob. So...I have to question how much damage LaMotta really took and how many times did he make his opponent look good by taking a dive in a fight.

Where you have to question I do not because I watched his fights. Dude is the definition of take 2 to land 1. No matter vs who.
Boxers also wear shoes. How neat. Lets move on

@massa
Difference is that the thicker padding in boxing gloves actually helps, to some extent, protect the fighters unlike the thin padding on 4oz MMA gloves.

@ Green Lamotta was cast from the same mold as rocky 'the last man' marciano. Not the classiest boxer, but heart, chin, and conditioning for days. Also back then everything was fought in 8 OZ gloves ( or less) which were basically like catching mitts. Tough dudes.

@greenhornet i think any cushion effect is negated by the extra weight on the gloves.
But who nose

Oh you wanna get mathematician about it? Ok. Lets be smart.
If George Foreman wore toy Hulk Gloves he could still knockout a bronze statue of Stalin naw mean?
If the size of gloves had a difference on KO ratio then Glory Kickboxing wouldn't be around. Doesn't matter what a professional striker wears..they're still lethal. Specialist are specialist. An expert welder doesn't need to see what he's doing type thing.
Prize-Fighting is Prize-Fighting. Also, its notorious how LaMotta & Suga Ray avoided the Mafia with ease due to respect & fear. 10 men with baseball bats still doesn't make Jake submit. And they respected Ray Robinson enough to stay way. Just like the Triads and Bruce Lee.

@Spudgreg
He gassed really early on which is unforgivable unless some major **** happened that we don't know about. Overall he looked like trash.

Boxing gloves are different than MMA gloves because of the dispersal of impact force. That's why there's less knockouts in boxing than MMA. It's the physics of it. Because Boxing gloves are bigger, the transference of force happens more slowly. That's also why the risk of KO is much higher in 8's, as opposed to 10's.
This does nothing to stop brain trauma however. In fact it is worse, because a shot that would KO someone in MMA gloves often will be the one that allows a boxer to beat the count, and effectively get KO'ed again. They aren't designed to do anything other than stop hand breaks, and minimize cuts--because cuts stop fights in boxing unlike MMA.
I have pairs of 8's, 10's and 16's, and believe me, you can REALLY feel the bag in 8's. Not suitable for sparring or hitting a bag at all.

Didn't we just go over how Foreman had what 68 KO's? Oh but there weren't as many back then? Hmm...anybody ever actually counted?

@bruce i agree fully except i wasn't saying heavier gloves equals more ko's
I was saying heavier gloves negates the advantage of the kushin effect of heavier gloves

There's a reason why we use heavy-bags and mitts instead of actual human-beings. Completely different material & durability all together. The point is, human-beings have concrete weaknesses. Achilles and the supposed Goliath as examples. Anatomy is absolute. Anatomy is weakness.
