What boxer do you think would do the best in MMA today?

If you had Ali, Frasier, Jack Johnson, Merriweather, or any other boxer, who do you think would translate best into the octogon?

I'm thinking Ali.

Ali was sort of in a little known MMA fight one time. Even though he had boxing gloves.
And it was the worst fight ive ever seen.

1) If you took all the legendary pro boxers and went back to when they were teenagers, and started training them in both boxing AND mma.  Who would be best?  In other words, which of them had the best MMA potential?  I would think it would be agile athletes like Tyson, rather than huge, hulking guys like Holyfield. But maybe I'm wrong.

2) If you took them exactly as they were (with no additional skills or training) and put them into MMA, who would do the best?  I'd say whichever guy might have had a couple years of high school wrestling would do the best.

Ali would have been the best MMA fighter, all the lanky guys are the best (Jones, Silva, Aldo). His promo's and interviews would easily be the best too. The GOAT...ALI BOMAYE...ALI BOMAYE

Yeah, I think Mickey could've been good.  That guy had loads of heart and a devastating punch.  I also think that Jack Dempsey would have been good in MMA because of his aggressive fighting style.  As a matter of fact, if you go back and watch some highlights of his fights, you'll see a lot of similarities in his style and Eddie Alvarez's.

My concern with Tyson would be his short height for his division, and the threat of kicks.  No doubt his power would be absolutely lethal with 5 oz. gloves, though.

I have to go with Tyson. His head movement and footwork was amazing when he was in his prime and his KO power is second to none.

mike tyson's killer instinct along with his perfect combination of speed and power would have been awesome BUT i can't help but look at that ity bity reach.  i mean 69" ?? light weights have more.  i'd have to go for a guy that has the same reach as bones jones at 84" and yet was only 6 feet tall and people compared tyson 's ferosiusness* to him.  i'm going with SUNNY LISTON

The 2 that come to my mind are Pac-man and "Iron" Mike Tyson. Pac-man is so fast and powerful he'd be KOing a lot of people. I think Tyson in his prime with good tdd would have worn UFC gold for a long time.

More and more strikers are learning to nullify take down attempts with footwork and angles.  Constant movement makes it difficult for a wrestler to time his shot, so if you taught a high level boxer how to sprawl, you could buy him some time.  I don't think that a high level pro boxer would need that much time to catch an MMA fighter.  The problem is, there are so many more strikes that the boxer has to look out for, in addition to the threat of being taken to the mat.  The way I took this discussion was, which high level boxer would transfer the best to MMA, provided he developed some general skills.
