Hi guys,

We're inviting you to come try out our latest creation, Finishers MMA Game.

finishersgame.com

Finishers is a new way to play MMA fantasy based on the knockout and submission abilities of fighters. The site is currently in closed beta, by invitation only.

We want you to be the first to try it out. If you're interested, reply to this thread and we'll send you an invite code to enter. UFC Fight Night 63 this Saturday is the first event open for play.

Gregory, Skelliher and I spent the past few months with an abacus, a protractor and crayons crafting a great way to play MMA fantasy online. Some of our mods are already members. It doesn't replace any Tapology features, and feel free to discuss it here on the forums. We really hope you like it.

Please note: our invite codes will go to the Tapology email listed on your account. If your email's a fugazi you won't get the invite and we won't know it. See you inside!

I like this a lot more than picking fights. This isn't boring, it's challenging and it's new. Here are some of my initial impressions, 'cause you know it's a beta and stuff...

The interface is a little confusing but the minimalist design is an excellent decision. I actually wrote about a few more problems that I had, but after a little exploration I realized how to solve them. Maybe for first time users there could be speech bubbles upon pressing certain buttons that explain that option further, I think it would look great with the minimalist design and it could also help people from the jump.

(EDIT: Now that I think about it, this problem could also be solved with a larger font size. Maybe having the list of teams on the side as a banner that can open and close will make space for bigger font everywhere else).

I like the use of teams a lot, it makes it a lot more efficient if you want to join multiple games with the same team. I also love being able to enter multiple teams into the same game, which makes the limitations on teams a great idea.

I also love the sorting options for the fighters, but I think the white font on the yellow buttons is a little straining on the eyes, mostly 'cause of the yellow.

All in all, I'm pretty excited for this site. It looks like a lot of fun.

Thanks @Anik! That's super helpful info.

One of the cool uses of Tapology + Finishers together is that the forums here can be labs for what we should build or change next over there. So we're interested to hear from everyone on these topics.

Our excuse for everything that we will use until we wear it out, and then use it some more, is that Finishers is still in beta. And it's true - not every wrinkle is ironed out yet.

I should also mention that if you encounter specific bugs or questions that warrant back-and-forth to solve, you can email us at support + @ + finishersgame.com (I exploded that email to avoid internet bots, so you'll need to put it back together). That way we can maintain the false impression on these threads that everything is perfect and nothing ever goes wrong.

If Tapology had a way to pin certain forum posts at the top (like an Administrator's thread, similar to most forums) there could be a Finishers BETA thread that people can go and discuss Finishers on the regular. It could also be used to pin UFC event discussions on the week that they're happening.

Finishers and Tapology together might work to elevate both sites. The fantasy MMA market has loads of untapped potential in it right now, and with a database as extensive as Tapology's it looks like they could easily be used hand-in-hand.

I'm really happy about this game, it appeals specifically to what I've been looking for for ages. It's not just basic formulaic picking between one guy or the other, but unlike Kountermove it doesn't ruin the entire thing by incorporating a salary cap and fixing random salaries onto the fighters that, more often than not, fail to reflect their actual worth.

One interesting strategy I've seen (and employed) in early tests when it was just a free for all between the Tapology brothers and I is putting both fighters from the same fight on my team. Heavyweight fights are ripe for that.

Not the best fight card for this game. Maybe that's why. It's chock full of potential decisions. Tap picks reflect that sentiment.
