^Probably my favorite Orwell. Masterpiece. I think the scene where he sees the slum girl unblocking the drain pipe is possibly the best piece of prose he ever wrote.

You might enjoy this if you like that. George Orwell kind of used it as his template for Wigan Pier. It's an incredible account of Industrializing London Slum life. The Victorian upper crust would go on slum 'tours', sort of like an urban safari. It was quite an industry.

Also look into Henry Mayhew.
