Absolutely nothing will come of this. The free market has more pull than any other professional sport. I'd  Almost guarantee Viacom is behind this

Actually combat sports have a problem. Mostly Football and MMA. The NFL has settled one very large lawsuit but there are some individual lawsuits still going through the courts. College football (some of the universities)are being sued and it's even gotten down to the High school level in players suing their school districts over head trauma (injuries). I read somewhere that MMA fighters have twice the rate of concussions that football players have. I think combat sports will look a lot different in 7 or 8 years.

The  article above me. It will be settled (for a lot less money)if they really have the type of lawyers the article says they have.

If the ufc does settle like this, will they have to cut some people to make up for losses?

What I mean is the ones who are not involved but the ufc wants to trim the fat due to their loss of money.

Independent Contractors with no union gonna have a hard time winning this.  Maybe if their ******* managers weren't so ******* lazy and were actually doing there job they would make some ******* money.  Once you sign that UFC contract you are essentially ******* YOURSELF IN THE ASS WITH A BOWLING PIN.

Maybe this will lead to them starting a union.

I was just being facetious @rappinpapsoda,  heh.  I think if they have to give up any money in the lawsuit it'll definitely make them eliminate some fighters from their roster and/or offer lower contracts to fighters who are due for a new one to try and make back some of the money.

It's the most logical comparison RappinBreaux.

Really interesting rumor. I am passing acquaintances with many of the best antitrust litigators here in Washington DC (including one of the guys running the O'Bannon v. NCAA case) so this makes me wonder if any of them are involved in this.  If so, they would have to be taking it on a contingent fee basis because there's no way a coalition of fighters could even come close to affording their rates, and those lawyers/firms wouldn't take on a case like that without vetting it thoroughly to make sure there's a reasonable chance of winning/getting a high value settlement.

Of course, this could turn out to be nothing, or they could be blowing smoke about the quality of the plaintiffs' counsel.  But it definitely could be a "game changer."
