There might be a dozen different fighting styles in Mixed Martial Arts, but only 3 strategic ways to win a fight.  Technicality, brawling, and fighting to "not lose".  Amateur fights usually turn into a brawl with less technicality, but there are few fighters that focus on fighting to "not lose".  The few fighters I'm talking about are on a path that begins with a Dead End sign.

I recently took an interest in following an amateur fighter out of Illinois by the name of Mike Shipp.  To admit I am not impressed would be an understatement.  Shadow jabbing, and using his wrestling skills to take down fighters for a 2 minute dry hump session may get you wins, but enjoy your amateur winning record because fighting to "not lose" will get you no where in Mixed Martial Arts.

Don't take me wrong, I respect any fighter willing to step in the cage after months, hours of training but I lose respect for those who do not develop their weaknesses.  Mike has fought an amateur fighter Brandt "the beast" Cooper twice.  Brandt took the first fight with 4 days noticed, unconditioned and lack of cardio led to tap out loss due to a shoulder choke (in my opinion).  Re-match fight left Mike going home with stitches and possible broken ribs but he continued to collapse on his opponent for take down points, even though he gets punched more on top rather than causing damage being held if half or full guard.

Overall, Mike fights to "not lose" and has no future career in Mixed Martial Arts.  However, keep an eye out for Brandt Cooper "the beast", "the brawler" as he improves his ground game and continues to excel on his stand-up technicality.

No issue with him giving a shout out to his family/friend or whatever but dont think he needed to bash some other dude under the fallacy of being a mma reporter to do it.. think someones sour how the last fight turned out.

The only fighter named Mike Shipp I ever heard of is an amateur who is 2-2 with both wins coming from submissions. Judge for yourselves how much "fighting not to lose" and "dry humping" you can see in his win from last month below (Mike "Battle" Shipp is the guy with substantial sideburns). Then again I'm not related to either guy, so I might be biased. Or it might just be a completely different fighter.

Not impressed with this Brandt Cooper guy, the other dude Mike Shipp on the other hand seems pretty good tho. Sounds like he beat "the beast", "the brawler" 2 times now.

Gonna keep an eye out for for this Mike Shipp, thanks TS!

Mike Shipp is a good guy.  And friends with Brandt.  Nothing biased, other than giving a s/o to brandt, I just call it like it is

Not sure how to be "nicelier" but if you meant nicer, I can work on that.  Otherwise just keep posting.  It's giving me more exposure.  I earned my bachelor's degree in PR/Marketing communication.  Where did you go to take your GED test?

I have my Doctorates in Nuclear Engineering from MIT. Why are you trying to one up a stranger and boast on a forum? You realize your "witty insults" make you look like a fool?

I said nicelier because I thought you'd actually be stupid enough to get  bent out of shape over it you pedant.

Nah, I didn't get bent out of shape. I am just trying to keep the posts going.  I don't care what you say.  Even if it's something stupid like having a PhD in NSE at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Like my friend.  Who doesn't even know what blogging is because he's too smart.
