I feel like the UFC is just going to match up Poirier with all the featherweights from TUF 14.

Very strange match up but it keeps Poirer busy i suppose.

I guess they're trying to build up Poirier more.

After watching Poirier in Fightland he became one of my favorite fighters. After watching Corassani in that season of TUF he became one of my least favorite fighters.

I hope Poirier slaughters Corassani.

This fight does nothing to build up Poirier ... this is either a scheduling/availability + Akira being TUF vet thing (they tend to put TUF vets on the finales to show where TUF can get you) or knocking Akira back down a peg he undeservedly went up on account of his theatrics against Maximo.

Either way, if Poirier doesn't finish this in the second at the latest, it'll be considered a bad fight on his account. He has everything to lose in this fight so he'd better make a statement.

Poirier is better in every aspect of MMA. He should get an early stoppage here. I wish this was Jeremy Stephens vs. Dustin Poirier instead. Give me that fight please.

Poirier is going to win the fight, but Corassani has won enough fights to deserve a chance like this, even if one of those wins was a dubious DQ

No he most definitely hasn't -- even if he had legitimately beat the living **** out of Maximo.

Poirier is top 10 (I have him at 7). Akira, I'd say sc****s 30, one could argue 25 by really pushing it even after the Maximo win ... #7 vs #30 never makes sense, unless the top 10 guy is coming of a loss and the #30 guy is on some serious momentum (which losing a fight and acting yourself into a DQ win kinda doesn't create).

Edit:: That said, I personally have nothing against this matchup ...; Aklra deserves a beating, he will get it and I will have fun watching + Poirier stays active and makes some easy money ... win-win for me :)

It does build him up. It might not move him up the rankings, but it helps him continue to build his winning streak.

Corassani is in the 25 - 30 range? even if you see him as on a two fight win streak instead of 3, are that really that any featherweights in the UFC that you can think of 25 that are better than him?

Well, if we're only talking about UFC fighters, there are about 60 FWs in the UFC right now, so you have to be in the top half to be in the top 30. Corasanni being just barely above average for the UFC sounds about right to me.  If anything, I think it's a little on the generous side.

If there are 60 FW in the UFC, I wouldn't say they rank exactly 1-60.

Plenty of great 145ers in Bellator and Asia.

And M-1....Strauss, Curran, Pitbull and Frodo could be top 10 let alone top 60......Good featherweights out of the far east  and russia. Georgi is definitely top 60....in WSOF. I'd say UFC has the most proven FWs and at the top 5 or so probably the best but the UFC probably only has 30 out of the best 60 FWs in the ...Ky opinion.

Caol Uno, Koji Oishi, Kazunori Yokota and Takumi Nakayama are decent Japanese FW's.
