Anybody know why this fight isn't even in the top 10 fights of 2013?
I thought it was an absolute barn burner.
Thoughts?

FOTY for me personally. Loved it more than Jones vs. Gus, but I'm a fan of wild, crazy, heated brawls with the fans going nuts, so it's not strange for me to have enjoyed it more.

I watched this again this morning and the first two rounds were fairly normal rounds other than a few wild exchanges. Now, the third round of that fight might be the best round of the year, or possibly the best round ever in a fight, but looking at the whole fight Jones and Gus was better.

I just thought Jones/Gustafsson was better because of the stakes of the fight and how everyone counted Alex out. Both were great. Everyone has to remember that Silva/Stann and Bermudez/Grice happened this year as well. All four were top 10 favorite fights of all time for me.

Holy **** I almost forgot about Bermudez and Grice. I think Jones and Gus was just a little better than Gil and Diego's brawl. Hard to really pick a FOTY now lol. But, if I had to it would still be Jones VS Gus.

It's in my top 10 for the year but my fave fight of the year is either Striegl/Kim, Silva/Stann, Choi/Maruyama or Horiguchi/Ishiwatari. I'm sure I'm forgetting a few though, havent kept my list up to date.

Edit: Oh yeah Bermudez/Grice was pretty great as well, forgot that was this year

Striegl Vs Kim was a sick fight , and as you said round 1 could be round of the year. ROTY could also easily be Silva /Stann RD 1 , Sanchez / Melendez RD. 3 ,Been some amazing fights this year.

That first round was great, the second slowly brewed the war that would ensue in the 3rd and I enjoyed watching Gilbert stay composed and land right hands repeatedly. Both guys showed tremendous heart, if that was a 5 round fight it would have been amazing.

as much as I loved Melendez vs Sanchez I don't see real reason to have a rematch right now, Melendez deserves to fight for a title shot or at least a title shot elimination fight, Sanchez can fight Maynard or Dos Anjos both are great fights for Sanchez to start building a streak in a way to a title shot and how ******* awesome would it be to have their rematch when Gil is the champ (because he will be) and after Diego puts on a good streak

I agree Trae. Get Grant vs. Melendez for the next title shot winner gets Pettis/Thomson winner and then Nurmagomedov vs. RDA gets the winner of that fight.

Grant or Khabib vs Melendez for title eliminator, dos nachos is behind them a little still I think.

I think Khabib is great but he´s still a couple of fights away from Melendez, Dos Anjos would be a good test for Khabib.

@Huiop I think Gil has what it takes to defeat Pettis and hold the belt for a while
