Jake Shields is returning to WW.  He's looking for a fight with a top contender.  He mentioned Jake Ellenberger, Condit and MacDonald.

I have a great match for him.  How about matching him with my boy, Jon Fitch!  Anybody up for a great grappling match?

Damn we need a polling mechanism here.  How much longer must we wait, Gregory!!!

I might consider going on strike if the polling mechanism isn't ready by the end of next week! I can't live without it any longer.

Damn Jake pick a weight class! I like the match up with Fitch. Rory would destroy him, Condit may want revenge so I could see that too.

Shields vs Fitch would be great. Fitch getting Fitch'd is always great to see.

If by demolish you mean lay on, then perhaps.

No by demolish I mean either score 3 EASYEASYEASY 10-9, hell maybe 10-8 rounds. Or even finish him.

How come when Fitch controls a fight with grappling he's boring and when Maia humps someones back for 15 minutes and does literally 0 damage he's a genius?

I actually think Jake Shields would beat Jon Fitch in a fight very similar to the Maia and Fitch fight.

@P4P It's genius because he Fitched Fitch before Fitch could Fitch him. So ya see...

Jake Shields isn't very good, he isn't a UFC caliber fighter.

Nah, i think Fitch would win easy. He might even actually be able to outstrike Shields. Compared to Shields Fitch's striking actually looks decent.

I figured that since so many members clamored for Fitch vs. Maia, a similar fight, like Fitch vs. Shields would be similarly popular.

After Fitch and Penn drew, Penn wanted to avenge the fight and asked for a rematch.  But Penn, Shields and Hughes were all waved off by Dana White on the flimsy pretext that Fitch was still a few days from getting cleared.  Less than 4 days after White blocked off those 3 fighters, he made the Hendricks fight!  Less than 4 days later!

So, I am elated if Fitch finally gets to face Shields.  Most of the main WWs are now unavailable due to having fights.  Great time to lock this one down now!

I guess people like to see Fitch get beaten at his own game.  Could this be true?

Everyone in this thread is wrong.

Jake Shields is a fringe top 10 welterweight.
Jon Fitch is an elite welterweight.
Jon Fitch would beat Jake Shields down.
He wouldn't lay on him because Fitch never lays on fighters, he's always active.
Even if he does get beat down by Fitch, it does not necessarily mean that Shields is a bad fighter, because he's not.
Maia/Fitch will not be like Shields/Fitch in anyway. Maia had a HUGE size advantage that Jake Shields does not have, Maia took Fitch down at will and Shields has notoriously bad wrestling so don't expect that, Maia is the greatest grappler in the history of MMA and while Shields is an excellent grappler, Jon Fitch did manage to shutdown Maia's sub attempts for a full 15 minutes and if he could do that to Maia, he will definitely do that to Shields.
Fitch is a much better striker than Shields, so there's always that.

To conclude, Jake Shields has been called overrated for so freaking long that I may dare say that he has become underrated. He is still a great fighter, Jon Fitch is just better and there's nothing wrong with that.

Tapology consensus WW rankings
1. GSP
2. Carlos Condit
3. Jonhy Hendricks
4. Rory MacDonald
5. Nick Diaz
6. Jake Ellenberger
7. Damian Maia
8. Martin Kampmann
9. Jon Fitch

My rankings are a little different but consist of the same ten people.
So for those of you who down thumbed my above comment please enlighten me as to which of these ten men Jake Shields would beat.
