There is a ton of posts on this in other topics, but the fight Nog wants is cro cop.

I would rather see Cro Cop vs Big Nog just for old times sake.

I hate how Schaub is trying to build his resume on old, washed up fighters. He beat a washed up Gonzaga(who's been cut), a way past his prime Mirko, and now wants a washed up Big Nog. Schaub will get smashed against any actual good HW's.

I'm not a Schaub fan. That said, it's not Schaub 's fault that legends on the horizon of their careers are still fighting in the UFC. The quickest way to become a name is by beating names. He's got that opportunity and it makes business sense for him to take those fights. If Nog and Cro Cop say they still have it and the UFC gives them fights, you can't blame Schaub for obliging them.

Some guy that dunks on Jordan today no doubt tells everyone how he dunked on Jordan. It's a compliment, really.

@blackwork everything you said makes perfect sense and while mentally i agree, the emotional connection to the fighters most of us grew into mma with is what makes it hard.  Its like some bully beating up your big brother because he has a broken arm, it just sucks to watch!

@pierced: completely understand. That's why you hope these guys either know when to call it quits or have people around them who can persuade them to do so when it's time.

@blackwork, that is also very true.  I think crocop would take the big nog fight but not many more after that if any.  Big nog depending how he looks in his next fight is really what will determine if he should retire.  He got messed up by cain but so has every one else really, and he lost to frank mir which isnt anything to feel ashamed about.  If big nog has a good showing like he did against big tim or randy then i think he should fight longer, if not then he should call it quits since hes been in a lot of WARS and i want to see him be a good coach later in life as opposed to a vegetable.

Was just talking to zerohours earlier about when we'd see Big Nog in the cage again.  He's been out of action since Cain mowed him down.  We were actually wondering how he'd do against a guy like Schaub too at this point.  Hopefully we get to find out.  Sadly I think I'd put my money on Schaub.

Schaub is trying to make a name for himself fight legends that are passed their prime.  Schaub needs a contender now.  I know Big Nog can still be a contender if he is healthy, but give him a warm up fight.  I think he would beat Mirko again.

I hate how worked up everyone gets when someone calls out a legend. Why the hell would someone call out a no name, beating legends is a fast track to the title shot.

Because it's a wussy move. You don't see other prospects calling out washed up dudes. Ellenberger has been calling out Fitch and Shields. You should want to fight the BEST, not old fighters who only have their name left. It's basic morals. Schaub knows if he called out any good HW he'd get creamed. He should be calling out Nelson trying to get his loss avenged but he knows he'd lose again.

@Danno I was looking through the current UFC HW roster and reached the conclusion that Schaub has a decent shot of beating many of the guys on there. So, in your opinion, outside of Cain, Dos Santos, Carwin (who he trains with), and Nelson who are the "good" HWs that would cream him? Cain holds the title and the others are in the title mix.

I agree that Schaub should be seeking to avenge his loss against Nelson, but there are several competitive fights for Schaub right now other than that rematch, and it really would be a step back for Nelson at this point.

If Schaub is looking to fight soon, there really aren't that many options for him -- Nog is one of them, though. Mir and Nelson/Struve and Brown fighting at 130. Dos Santos and Carwin fighting at 131. Barry and Kongo/Mitrione and Morecraft fighting on Versus Live.

With these guys out due to scheduled fights, how many other fights are left for Schaub that would be main-event material? You really don't think Schaub can hold his own against the remaining competition?
