Mestre do Combate rules

It's finally here... the new promotion by Rickson Gracie will be happening this Thursday in Rio de Janeiro. So i guess some explanations about how different this will be are needed:

- the main card fighters will be divided into two teams: Team Samurai (managed by Murilo Bustamante and composed by Rio de Janeiro-based fighters) and Team Scorpions (managed by Francisco Veras and composed by São Paulo-based fighters). There will be 5 bouts (one in each weightclass, from Heavyweight to Lightweight) the Team with the most wins will be the champion.

- The weight-ins will happen three hours before the start of the event, so everyone will have to fight on his own weightclass.

- every fight will have 2 rounds (a 10 minute first round, and a 5 minute second round). If any of the fighters are in the middle of a submission or a iminent knockout the round will NOT be stopped even if the time's up. This call will be entirely on Big John McCarthy.

- if after 2 rounds the fight isn't over, the decision of the winner will be made by three votes: one by Rickson Gracie, one by Big John McCarthy and one by the public. There will be no point system, just the name o the winner. The public will vote by a website made for this, social networks or by some cellphone apps.

- same stuff that are forbidden on the UFC will be forbidden here. so yeah, no soccerkicks, headbutts, fingerlocks, et cetera...

Judges are Rickson, Big John, and the public voting?  That's different...

i wonder how we will enter the info of the results if a fight is finished on "extra time"

I can just see people voting for the "wrong" guy to get a "correct" pick.  Out of curiousity, I wonder what potential allowing fans to judge has for abuse?

i'm selling everything i got and getting a loan. placing a wager on Vitor Miranda for 5 million dollars and gonna hire 100,000  people who i will pay 30 bucks apiece to vote for Miranda and i'm gonna make 2 million dollars. + _ +

Yeah, having a referee being a judge is screaming potential corruption. I know it's Big John this card and he's a stand up guy, but this has so much potential for abuse in the future.  

I love the round set up though. 10 minute first round is awesome.

with 10 minutes round 1s, i dont see either fight going the decision lol at least i hope they dont

results are in! it seems that it was a pretty sucessful event. 

Official results: Team Samurai (from Rio de Janeiro) 3 x 2 Team Scorpions (from São Paulo)
Samurai winners: Camolês, Sixel and Conceição
Scorpions winners: Lima and Eugênio

the only controversy was the Conceição/Brandão fight that went the distance and both Rickson and Big John scored for Conceição. and the public was HEAVILY in favor of Brandão... it seems that the focus (of Rickson and Big John) was way more in favor of the BJJ aspects than the stand up.

apart from that, i hope next time Rickson can bring some bigger names. 

also, congrats @krazyhopz on the solo win!
